NEA 15 PDW Newb Experience. *Updated 01/06/2012*

I do not understand why you should have to put more money into a brand new rifle to make it function properly, am I missing something here? Would it not be best to contact NEA and get your "NEW" rifle fixed properly and then let them tell you what was wrong with it instead of throwing parts at it. I can understand how the OP wants to learn about the AR system but not on a new rifle with your dime..............

This makes too much sense... NEA seems to have great customer service, I'd give them the chance to make it right. They probably don't want the rep of having to put more money into their gun to make it shoot properly.

Update. Got the rail off and found the gas block has loosened off and is just floating there. I can slide it all the way up to the flash hider.

Still going to put the heavy buffer and flash hider on.

Also, want to add that NEA proactively contacted me and offered me suggestions and fixes to the problem. Their CS is truly legendary.

glad it worked out.... it broke mine down to bare bones and rebuilt it last night to make sure all was well. i found no issues with mine, now its time to beat the crap out of it at the range....

That would do it. Let us know how it shoots once you get it all fixed/upgraded!

Pics and range report when you have a chance! :D

my rifle did this too. short stroking and instead of stripping the round from the mag, the bolt would dig into the side of the round making the same marks. my gas block was loose too. no it was NOT and NEA gun.

never had it happen on a front sight post equipped rifle. gas block rifles like to have issues with the block slightly moving

Exactly the same issue with mine! After I re-installed the gas block on mine I ran 300 rnds with-out any issues! I didn't change anything else.....

Cheers!

Update.

Got the gun out again.

I tightened the gas block, put in the heavy buffer, and the diablo comp.

No more failure to feeds, but now I get a stove pipe once a mag or so.

I'm going to put the stock buffer in and see if that clears it up. If not, maybe I'll put in an extractor kit and see if that helps.

I should add that when the empty case stove pipes, the bolt has grabbed and attempted to chamber a round still.

Occasionally, when I drop the empty mag, and empty case would fall out of the mag well (complete FTE).

So still not quite there yet. About 420rnds down the gun now (minus the failures which number about 40 or so by this point).

I can't quite tell from the pics but do you have extended feed ramps . Any little ridge or lip may cause problems.
From the video and photos of the brass it would seem that your bolt is slamming into the brass (duh, I know) that is getting caught on the ramp. Be better if you had M4 extensions. Remember the barrel extension and receiver need to "match" !

I may be way off stupid retarded so forgive me if so.

I don't know what is in there. It is a factory gun. I did not build this. It should not have incompatible parts in it to begin with.

I'm going to reinspect the gas block right now. The brass just kind of pops out now instead of ejecting like it should.

Well it "should " match but some manufacturers ensure a fit with no ridges and others do. Have you seen pics of the differences?
Kinda like staking the key on the BCG, different manu's and different methods. Some not great. With the ramps, like they say a few are good but clearly there is a "best" setup.
