Started my bobtail commander yesterday.
Began with a latest edition Norinco commander.

Used a die grinder with a 1/32" disc to do the cutting, taking my time and not overheating the steel.I used the Ed Brown jig but the factory main spring pin holes did not line up and as can be seen in the pics I had to enlarge the first hole I drilled to ensure the second was perfect. While it doesn't affect the function in any way I'm thinking of having half the hole welded up and using the jig to re-drill.With one side pefect it will be an easy fix.
Thanks for taking the time to check out my project, hope you enjoy it.

Started with a course file and rough shaped it, wow it happens fast.

After shaping it to where it fit nice with the bobtail mainspring housing you can still see a bit of the original pin hole.

I wanted a nice blend so I filed the frame and mainspring housing together with a fine file and then 120 grip paper wrapped around the file.

Everything blended and blasted.

Frame and slide ready for flat black gunkote.

Well I finally found the time to finish, re-assemble and test my project.
It feels great in the hand and with the polished trigger it is much smoother then stock and breaks like glass at about 4 1/2 lbs.
now time to sell and on to the next project. here are some pics

I have the bobtail and the jig, I just have too may other projects on the go too. That's the problem, half dozen unfinished projects and nothing gets done.

Very nice work. I've heard that Norcs can be tough on the cutting tools did you find that?

No I didn't. I used a thin cutting disc to reduce friction and heat and it worked great. My files are pretty new and were clean and sharp so the entire job went very smooth. It only took about an hour and a half to cut and file the frame. Quite a bit of that was spent checking the fit and blending the bobtail housing. I was surprised how easy it really was.
Again I think the key was sharp tools.

Its all about personality. You take the gun and make it yours. Whether your a cowboy action shooter or IPSC, Target shooter or whatever, its like adding your own gimic to make it unique. It gets boring seeing the same old thing all the time. Yours is now unique with your own personality built in. Good job. All gunfighters in the old west used to customize their six shooters. Its all the same.
