Hello,

I am actually a translator and need to know how to word the following for my work:

RT-15 assault rifle caliber M-16

How should this be worded in English and would it make sense that this type of rifle has rotary magazines?

Thank you!

I am translating from French to English. The French gives mes "un fusil d'assaut RT-15 calibre M-16"

I just need to know how to order it in English, but I can't seem to find any internet hits that uses R-15 and M-16 together....and the M-16 calibre thing seems strange to me, but I know nothing of weapons.

Thanks!

calibre is being misused as it refers to the diameter of the projectile, or sometimes the cartridge designation, such as 223 or 5.56x45mm Nato.

Perhaps what they are trying to say is that the RT-15 is the same calibre as the M-16 rifle. Not a very common way to state it, but perhaps in some backwards country it might mean more to the common man than saying 5.56x45mm Nato.

Please don't put the word assault in it. Assault rifles don't exist, they are a semi-auto sporting rifles in 223 Rem or 5.56 Nato. They become assault rifles when in the hands of military/police in training/combat.

BTW, assault rifle...em I mean, black rifle forum is that way

the French version makes no sense , you cannot translate incoherent jargon. perhaps post the hole sentence / paragraph... and by weapons I think you mean firearms as anything can be a weapon.
