Just got my RPAL card today and was surprised to see the document it came with say the following:

SPECIAL CONDITIONS (continued) Carry this document with your licence card as you must be able to produce this document on demand if requested by a peace officer or other authority.

"this document" refers to a small piece of paper I had to cut off from the page that has the conditions of the license, my name, license number, and expiry date.

The card already says "Standard conditions are attached to this licence", so the paper contains no additional information. Just seems kind of silly to require this.

Do any of you guys carry the paper with you? I'd imagine it to become unreadable very quickly, hence we have plastic for proof of license.

I asked a cop friend of mine about it and he said he wasn't even aware of the requirement of the extra piece of paper. He said the license is all he ever asks for and is sufficient.
That being said, I have the redundant piece of paper in my wallet.

lol this sh*t is getting out of control

That piece of paper has been around since about 2007 - 2008.

I just cut it and folded to the point I made a nice little sheath for my card to fit snuggly into.

It helps protect the card from damage sliding into and out of my wallet all the time.

However, some here have called the CFC about it and were told if you only have "standard conditions" on your license, you don't need to carry the piece of paper.

You may want to call to double check.

Thank god I was reading this. I work for G4S and they never told me I needed to carry this small cut off from the licence form.

Good thing I didn't throw it out!

I wasn't even aware of the requirement to carry that piece of paper. Other than being able to own restricted's, I only have the standard conditions.

Has anyone recently called the CFC to double check?

If your PAL clearly indicates "Standard" conditions only, then carrying the paper portion with no other conditions is useless and unnecessary. The "standard" condition states that you must report address changes to the CFC within 30 days. That's it, that's all.

If however, your PAL indicated there are other conditions, then you must carry the paper portion listing the additional conditions. Pretty straight forward.

that scares the #### out of me. If police say ignorance of the law is no excuse then I sure as hell demand that of them!

The FA is so confusing and complicated that is does not surprise me that most average rank and file LEO have no real idea of what is 'legal' or not. Which is why there are so many paper criminals in this country (or, at least charged with some offense under the FA later to have it all thrown out). Not a pleasant experience I am sure.

I noticed that piece of paper attached to my card as well.

I think that if you blindly throw away things without reading the information on it before you chuck it, the mistake is your responsibility.

Do I like the rules? No.

Do I think they should change? Yes.

But until then, it is my responsibility to educate myself so I can be one of those law abiding firearm owners that most of us profess to be. I am not going to omit something that's required in protest, or because some LEO was not aware of the requirement.

My 0.02, and if you want to flame me as a newbie...fill your boots.

I just called the RCMP and they said this:

You DO NOT need to carry it if you only have the standard "Notify if moved within 30 days" condition. If you have ANY Special conditions, you must carry it. She said that you MUST keep the card at your residence for reference though (ie: don't throw it away). I do not have special conditions, so I don't have to carry it.

Hope this helps someone else!

The CFO told me when I asked about it that I don't need to carry it. Unless you have conditions and they put that on the back of the pal ie minors ect..
