I got a new HB wadcutter "webley" bullet mould.
It's throwing 240 grain bullets using 30-1 lead. I'm lube sizing to .453".

The bullets look kinda like the British "manstopper" webley bullets that were outlawed by one of those treaties where we agreed to only kill each other using "nice" bullets during time of war.

A large percentage of MKI/II/II webleys are throated .452" and some even tighter and some of these don't shoot flat base bullets worth a darn. Many will shoot better with a hollow base bullet. I got to the range this morning and tried a few - they shoot nice in a MKI .45acp and a MKII .455 I tried them in.

The MKII is one of the revolvers that just will not shoot flat base bullets, but the group with this bullet has tightened up to about 1/3 the size i got with .453 and .455 flat base bullets. That pistol has a .452" throat and a .454" barrel. It is a picky eater but i finally found something it likes. :)

Never seen a hollow base full wad cutter before looks interesting bet they punch nice holes in the target and hit with a smack

perfect circles they cut out of the target paper. I need to try them on a milk jug full of water sometime.

MP-Moulds made it. They are in Slovenia. http://www.mp-molds.com/
I got this one on a group buy at Cast Boolits. model: MP 454 395 HBWC.

Are we allowed group buys on this sight?
If so, I'm in. These bullets look great and sound like they preform same.

Now if only I reloaded.

I could use some of these for my Mark II.

I started reloading solely because i wanted to save money on ammo. I got in deeper when I started getting interested in old guns that were hard to get ammo for, and expensive when you could find it all. I can reload .455 and .45 autorim for less than $10/50.

But reloading has turned into more than just a money saving exercise for me. I enjoy the reloading and casting almost as much as shooting and hunting. The mental concentration required to reload and cast let's me forget about all of life's little stresses for a while and I tend to feel better after doing it. Almost like exercising, but more mental activity than physical. You might like it.

X2, thats also why i try to either reload or cast any time i can. plus it also opens up a new world of shooting with all the diferent tips, powders/charges, ext. available when you reload.

I don't know how that works on this board. MP will put you on their manufacturing schedule if you can place an order for 15-20 moulds. If there was that much interest it might be a possibility, but i think we'd need to get permission from Greentips prior to starting anything like that. Mp has a backlog of 6-8 months on the group buys at Cast Boolits forum.

Pumpkins?, they are way too many months away ... however ... them watermellons?, be thick on the ground. :p

I'll keep ya'll informed, via this thread:) of any progress in my attempts to buy a single 454 395 HBWC mold from MP.

Backwards Yes

flip them around backwards and you got one hell of a hollow point:eek:

I loaded 148gr HBWC's backwards in a 4" S+W model 10 sitting on top of 3-3.5gr of Unique in a .38 Special. This was Skeeter Skelton's Border Patrol load for concealed 2" snubbies. At 100 yards they would expand to 75 caliber and penetrate one side of a 45 gallon drum leaving a good welt on the other side coming to rest in the drum.Like the British manstopper loads only smaller caliber...........Harold

I've had a couple people ask about seating depth for these bullets.
Here's how I do it:

0009.jpg

The .45acp COAL is 1.100"
The .455 MKII COAL is 1.010" to 1.050"
In both cases the bullet is seated with one lube groove in the case. The bullet is seated slightly deeper in the .45acp to allow it to chamber due to the bullet profile.

Remember that longer is better when using the smokeless pistol powders because it increases capacity and lowers pressure, especially with Unique and Trailboss.

I have posted this before but if it's hollow points your after, the more commonly available Lyman "destator" 180 grain 45 bullet mould is available and is very destructive to milk cartons and pumpkins coming out of a webley.

The Webley "Manstopper" bullet had a hollow base and a hollow point. I don't know where I got this but it may be interesting:

I'm almost tempted to investigate the Webley MP mould. (I have a Mk.VI) I'm not really into casting but I recently got a beautiful 125gr FP mould for my .310 Cadet from Cast Bullet Engineering in Australia, so the die is cast, as it were.

:) Stuart

EDIT: I remember there is a similar thread in the Reloading forum on casting Manstopper bullets.
