Yes, I know technically the SKS is both a Russian rifle and a milsurp. But I'm asking why its to be discussed in the 'Red Rifles' section, rather than the 'Milsurp' section.

From the new sticky:

-if the military rifles predecessors were first used in WWII and prior wars then they belong in milsurp , regardless of where they were produced.

milsurp : LE , mosin, SVT , mauser.

-after WWII but before vietnam war , they will go to either battle rifle or red rifles section depending on where they were produced .

battle rifles : M14 (M305), FN FAL.
red rifles: SKS, AK47, SVD , VZ52, VZ58.

The SKS was introduced in 1945, though not in regular production then, and prototype SKS were actually used against German force during WWII. The first model of the SKS is even called the 'type 45'. So based on the description given in the new sticky, why isn't the SKS a 'Milsurp' WWII rifle?

Because the sks is so f'ing awesome it deserves to be discussed in a separate section from other surps! :)

That and it's probably one of the most owned Commie rifles in Canada. My guess. No real proof, accept when I go to Gobles Guns in town here and see how fast their huge stock disappears.

Because the SKS is a favorite for all sorts of DIY and the folks in the Milsurp forum twitch every time someone says "tri-rail" or mentions ATI.

The same reasons the Hakim and FN49 don't get any play with the Battle rifle bunch.

If you leave it stock, I personally think it would fit well in Misurp. If you want to tacticrap it, then Red Rifle. I think it does well in both sections. It is just that it is not well knowen as a WW2 firearm.
Just my opinion.

Ya, those battle rifle fellas don't really like modern day modifications much, do they?

Sounds like that hit the nail on the head to me.
