I don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere (we all know the search function has its limitations and I may be a tad lazy :p ) but why is there no Swiss Arms Uppers available in Canada? I am seeing lowers, complete barrel/bolt/gas assemblies etc etc but NEVER an upper reciever.

I would love to have multiple barrel length uppers to slam on a single lower like an AR. I know the upper is the serialized portion but that shouldn't matter, should it?
 
The only Swiss Arms uppers I've seen have been almost as much as the whole rifle. Additionally, the advantage of having multiple AR uppers with one lower is you essentially have several firearms with only one registered part, where you would have several registered parts with the Swiss Arms.
 
the situation on a SA is reversed from that of an AR. On an AR, the lower is the gun, on a SA the upper is the gun. This is likely what causes the situation

But even if it saves you $500 off the price of a whole rifle, that is $500 less out of your hard earned savings. Understood about the registration portion but since the Carbine and CQB are Restricted length barrels, carrying the certificate for them is worth the hypothetical savings of just buying an upper IMHO

Understood, but if we can import and sell the whole damned rifle, why is importing just the serialized complete upper any different than bringing in any other firearm?

It likely has to do with testing. Normally manufacturers want to test fire the guns as a unit before shipping. Just a guess.
 
I believe TSE has prices for complete uppers. I would imagine that you'd have to order them, not something they would likely stock.

There just isn't the market. Most people will only buy 1 Swiss Arms, and if they can afford 2, they can afford the little bit extra for the 2nd lower. Remember that the mix and match phenomenon seen with AR's doesn't occur with any other firearm, even though it is mechanically possible. This has to do with the do it yourself simplicity of assembling your own AR platform rifle, and market demand for uppers only from the U.S. This is not seen with the Swiss Arms, or any other rifle for that matter.
 
San uppers

Calgary Shooting Center has/had a couple uppers available with restricted barrel length as of this past month. g2.

Uuuuhhhhh, yes there are!

Different gas systems, barrel lengths, sight options (diopter/flat top with built in BUIS), rail options from B&T etc etc.

The ability to take off a rifle length with scope for shooting 'yotes/gophers and put on a CQB length barrel with diopter and Micro dot for range work would be awesome. Then slap on the Carbine length upper with ACOG for mid range work.....

Agreed, it sounds like my ideal set up!

One problem, I don't have any kidney's left to sell, I already sold both to buy the Swiss Rifle's I have,

If you want a range queen you're further ahead to buy an AR. Unless you've got unnatural man love for the SAN platform what would possess you to spend over twice the money for half as many guns? The flat range guys swear by the AR. there's a reason for that.

And before we get the hammer and nails out, I have a SAN and love it (maybe even unnaturally at times), but with no access to a flat range having a restricted long gun is of little value to me at this point.

Or you could buy a NR Classic Green and an AR of some sort, and do the exact same thing for half the money. If you're really so gung-ho about getting a Swiss Arms upper only, buy the whole rifle and put the lower on the EE. The fact is that there isn't much of a market for uppers only. And with $2800 +tax, I'd rather have a KAC SR-15 than a Restricted Swiss Arms, or even a more moderately priced AR such as a Daniel Defense and a 2nd upper of a different length. Just saying...

The only reason I see to buy a SA upper on its own would be to use one of those NEA lowers.

Personally, I think they should just manufacture some uppers to go with it. Hell, they don't even have to use the same operating system.

The problem with that is you'd also need to buy a LPK for it too, which is basically $500, so you might as well get the whole rifle for the same price, and you get to keep or sell the stock/stripped lower.
