Remington 5R MilSpec in .308...your thoughts?

Iv got one , good gun for the money. Shoots about 5/8 Moa with hand loads useing 175smk . Have the trigger tuned down by a smith and it will probably do every thing you need untill you have alot of trigger time shootin precission

I just purchased one, mounted the scope and took it out to the range for the first time last night.

Remington 700 5R Milspec .308 with a NightForce 5.5-22x56mm, Leupold Tactical Mark 4 Rail and Medium Rings, Harris BiPod and a TacOps Cheek Rest.

I fired 40 rounds of Federal Gold Medal Sierra Matchking 168gr through it, when I did my part, I was able to shoot 3 shot groups all touching each other at 100M.

So far I am stoked for an out of the box rifle, and can't wait to upgrade / customize it.

I used to own one and my buddy to whom it was sold still enjoys it. I consider it to be a very good out of the box rifle that shows a preference for 175g pills and, properly used, I expect you to find it to be a solid 3/4 MOA rifle.

I've heard nothing but great reviews from owners. It's #1 on my list for getting into precision while trying not to break the bank. Relatively affordable, solid, pretty damn accurate based on the ones I've seen in action, and if you convert that accuracy to a $/MOA basis then it's a huge winner.

A fellow member/freind has one in .308.

The very first ,arbitrarily chosen, handload went 1/2 MOA for 10 shots. One inch at two hundred yards, from prone/bipod, in a light breeze.

This with Horn. 155gr amax and Varget.

I bought one from a friend about a week ago. It had about 50 rounds through it and is in perfect condition, came with one piece base with 20 moa. I got a good deal and plan on taking my 20x Sightron off my Savage .223 as soon as the new scope for it comes in.
I had thoughts about buying a TRG 22 but after taxes and everything it would be a pile of cash. I am very happy with the 5R and my friend says it is a shooter. I put a Harris bi pod on it and plan on getting an over sized bolt knob and that is about it.(maybe metal colour changed somewhere down the road)
The thread about the gong stand is my sons and we are planning to chrissen it soon.
300 win mags I think are a lot of recoil and more expense and do you really need it? Cheers Roscoe ps if you want a pic pm me your email

5R mil spec

I think 300 WinMag is more than I'd want in one of these too...in any case, I'll have to save up for one for awhile.

You will get a much longer barrel life from the .308 as compared to a .300 win mag. And look around lots of people buy rifles shoot them a couple of times then they sit in the safe. There are some like new used ones out there so save your money and keep looking.

Have one, love it. Last year I had Henry R pull the ss action for a custom build I was doing (wanted it pretty....) and replace it with a SPS action with an AI bottom metal so I can use mags. He also re-cut the chamber for 155 palma's and installed a screw on muzzle brake to help maintain target visual in my scope. Throw in a jewel trigger and Rempel bipod and wow!

I got one last week from a fellow gunnutz. I haven't try it yet, no bullets and no dies. I must say the R5 is one beautiful remi, makes me want to keep them all ;-)

Ok, I'll chime in too.
I do not own one, but I shoot one regularly. My shooting buddy bought the Rem 5R last year with some factory ammo and I've since rolled 1650 rounds for him for a total of 1900 rounds through the barrel. It is still a true, 1 moa gun. 5 rounds inside 9" at 900 yards on his second go at it. We don't shoot much under 600 yards anymore.
He is a great shooter, and I didn't call the gun a sub moa because that's a title that's harder to live up to than most will admit. ;)

So was the gun worth it? His was.

add: ceriksson, that is remarkable shooting.
