Remington 5R MilSpec in .308...your thoughts?

Need I say more?

A dream come true ceriksson.:) If that group is at all typical, unlikely we'll be seeing an EE WTS, eh?

That's the best part of shooting for me .... belly'd up to a rifle so fine, that any miss is always ME doing the missing.:D

Can you imagine the 5R in 6.5X55 ???.

Wow! Thanks for all the user specific comments, fellows...I really appreciate it. ;) Can't wait to get one of my own now...

Mine's a .5 MOA gun with factory Federal 168grn Gold Medal Match.

I've shot a few of them and they were all .5 moa or less with 168 Federal gold. I have some 175SMK done up that I'm looking forward to trying in it as well.

These were my results with the 5R 308 using 168 Federal Gold. 5 shots 100 yards. Bag on the front and a bean bag for the back. 20x Zeiss Conquest.

When I bought my 5R rifles they were only known by a few. I had to go through all factory rifles are the same type posts. Enough people have them now, and it's the exception that doesn't shoot .5moa or less at 200 yards and under. That's without having to reload which is one of the greatest strengths. You can probably bring it down a bit more with reloads. Plus I'd look at a different round than the 168 past 500 yards. Wondering what those 175 will do? :D

Hey Epoxy ..... Wow.:)

Hellofagoodfactoryammoshooter you got there.

Haven't played all that much with the 175's yet, but FWIW, the Amax 155/Varget reloads carry nice and tight to "way out there" in a VSSF, and 2 5R's loaded for so far.

.4 MOA is typical, some groups print tighter than that, and the load holds well to the wind with 2800+ velocities, and more than reasonable BC's.

heres a 300yd group, the gusting wind got the best of me that day, but still sitting around 1/2MOA

the "bulleye" looks messed up cuz its actually a round magnet lol

Thanks vviking.

The 155 sounds like a Palma type load. I could see it working very well.

On a side note, I have a "desert R" I put together but haven't had a chance to scope or shoot yet. I bought a lightly used 5R without the stock and put it in a VSF tan/black webbed stock. That stock is the same as the HS on the 5R, the VSSF II etc. Except for colour. So now I have a tan version which looks pretty cool with the bead blasted stainless. I hope to eventually put a 8-32x Sightron SIII on it.

I have also had some great results with 155gr SMK Palmas. I'll have to look back at my reloading logs to get the details.

I'll probably give your 175SMK 44 and 2.895 recipe a try. I have some 175SMK with 43 varget and 43.4 loaded up. I guess the next one will be 44.

One a side note, my Armalite AR10 DND model with 24" 1:11.25 SS barrel shoots the same stuff as the 5R. The 5R seems to be slightly more accurate, but the AR10 is right in there. It's nice that they both shoot the same ammo. It keeps reloading a lot easier.

Thanks to you guys who are posting your reload stuff. I always try to do the same to help others out as well.

The Sierra/Amax/Lapua palma 155's are going fast enough to pass 1200 yards or so before slowing to subsonic.
How will they react to the transition? ... no clue ... I live in the east, and that much range is not to be found hearabouts. :(

Those HS stocks are the cats meow for prone, IMO.:D

45 to 46 grains of Varget, Br2's, with .030" jump, .... has performed very well in three rifles so far.
