AR Platforms Derestriction?

I would love to see things changed and I have wrote letters to mp's. The CPC turfed the registry on the basis that it was a financial drain on the country. Changing classifications isn't going to benefit the "the country" as a whole. The CPC is no different than any other party. They are there for votes. I love the gun hobby and have loved it for years but there are other issues besides gun classification. I voted NDP because the cpc candidate in my district was a ####. I think Harper is a maggot. Flame suit on.

If they get enough people calling in, that would be an interest of their voting numbers too. But, we all have to do it in order to make the difference. Alot of people will just say "ya ya, someone else will vote for me" but in reality the MP's do base it on a volume. It's always a numbers game with them. So all of you get off your asses and call, email or fax.

Votes don't count in an issue such as this! You have to donate MONEY and gain influence! The gun community never sends money in any amount to make change. The gun law didn't change because of gunowners, it changed because of the costs it added to the national debt and tax payer's wanted cuts made!! We live in a debt cutting world that can't afford to live the way we are.

Again, this is the perfect time to make this is an economic issue, that can be leveraged to benefit domestic manufacturing.

It'll never happen, it was restricted in the first place which is total BS.

Just imagine all of the headlines that will appear on newspapers.
That and all the antis will go nuts..

"Government trying to unrestrict military grade assault rifles"
"Weapon used by armed forces"
"No control over these"
"Anyone can buy"
"cannot track deadly weapon"
"weapon used to kill million becomes unrestricted"

Well they better count or they won't get in again. Lol! Explain that. How are they going to keep a majority government if they aint getting votes? Or is it really a huge conspiracy and we are governed by the Aliens or something. Hey, Major Tom, come back to Earth. Not to do with votes, pffa!

Never happen IMHO.

Even if it did, the Libs or NDP will just ban them completely immediately after gaining a majority, or even a coalition.

None of this battle is about facts or evidence, it is about political ideals, and the selfish nature of politics will be all that matters.

Firearm owners are just standing by waiting for the next massacre, and to see which political party will come after us next.

I don't doubt that even the Conservatives will #### us if they see a benefit in doing so.

Don't forget we still have not had any resolution to the CFO's ledgers! Where are the Conservatives on this one?

I hope something drastic is done, that will make me believe, but for now I remain unconvinced.

There is currently a committee that is multi-partisan and is reviewing the constitutionality and effectiveness of current laws. This committee is headed by a gun owning MP and it's been made clear that he wants to put the gun laws up for review at the forefront.

What prevents us from using AR15s in the woods (or even handguns) is not that they're restricted, it's that the CFOs won't issue ATTs to take them hunting. You don't have to de-restrict the firearm. Just give us universal ATTs to take any gun shooting at approved locations.

Frame of reference is misguided

This issue is far broader than "de-restricting the AR"

in fact that statement makes no sense what so ever

Even if the AR platform was not Restricted by type probably half of them would still be restricted due to barrel length.

This is not about the AR .. it is about the whole idea of "by type" classifications against "by attribute" classification.

a huge confusing knot of useless regulation and a source of endless confusion for enforcement would be relieved by classifying all firearms by their attributes rather than their emotional capitol.

the AR would ride that wave of logic.. and every one of them that had a barrel length over 8.5 inches would be unrestricted.

and Coyotes Canada wide would shudder

Here in BC, once we get our Long Term ATT, we can bring it to any shooting range and gun smith in BC and YUKON. The LTATT expire when your fire arm license expires..

Ive said it before and I'll say it again, I'd have no problem with them remaining restricted if we could shoot the damn things outside of a range. I think it would be an easier sell to the public if we still had to jump through that one extra hoop to have a "restricted firearm", and honestly for how easy it is to get I dont think its that big of a deal for someone to have to learn about restricted firearms before they go and own one. I know it kind of sucks for us but I think all hell would break loose if the media spun it the wrong way on us as 99% of people arent as well informed about firearms as the people on this forum.

Just my 2 cents and I could be way off base but I refuse to believe this cant be beat somehow, saying it cant or wont happen isnt going to help our cause in the least. I think its time for me to become a member of the CSSA and NFA.

Your very right.
I didn't think they would ever take down the Long Gun Registry, and they did. Think positive and something is more likely to happen. Think negative and it's like giving up.

I agree that being able to use them is my argument. It's just that de-restricting them will require a lot less paperwork than issuing permits to hundreds of thousands of shooters. We just got rid of that mess!
