Shorten PAL Approval Times

yes i agree and speaking from hindsight i did just that got my pal last year and said ah i dont want handguns all the hassle of att's etc. well i caught the bug and since i could sneak in before the fees came back into effect i opted this year to get my rpal and in doing so basically renewed as my new rpal is good till spring 2018. i challenged both exams so saving money and time. i can honestly tell anyone to just get the restricted you wont regret it.

Csense shows as issued as of today or yesterday, they recieved application for pal/rpal on the 16th of April so about 53 days for Ontario app.

Don't know how you guys are getting yours in 28, but I salute you.

You can but you'll get the same answer as I did this week, quote 'were really backed up & it's taking us up to a month to process RPAL applications, please call back in a week or so's time.'

My 45 days from start of processing falls due on Monday.... :(

Are you saying that in BC it can take up to a month from after the interviews are done to process RPALs? Nothing else can be done to speed things up after the interviews...just sit and wait??

All I can tell you is that both time last week when I called the BC CFO office, both ladies told me that their compleatly back up with applications, getting 500+ faxes a day & to call back in another weeks time.

Will be calling again mid next week to see if they have scanned my additional info.... hopefully then it'll get the approval.

my story is roughly the same...
app sent may 11
received may 15
online may 31 saying initial processing complete
still waiting.
28th day is 12th june. no interviews done yet.
but i had a FAC that expired , dont know if that makes a difference

Andy thanks for all the info. Wondering who uses faxes anymore? Those things still exist?
So once the interviews are done, they fax information and it needs to be entered in again? Is that what happens? Man that just makes zero sense. :(

you guys are are worried about waiting a month or 2?? app sent in jan. 23rd, finally got confirmation it should be arriving this week ( RPAL ). I'm ex-military with previous high security clearance. ####, the CF threw a fully automatic C7 at me my first few weeks in basic haha. no idea why it took so long and I'm not surprised, but its finally coming.

my rpal is supposed to arrive this coming week, and they finallyyyyyy phoned my references roughly 2 1/2 weeks ago. by the time i actually get in my hand it would be roughly 3 weeks if i do get it this week.

A message of hope for those in BC...

May 14 - app recieved Mirimachi
June 8 - Interviews
June 11 - Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number.

29 days exactly from recieved to approved. Interviews on Friday and approved by monday morning...NIIICE!!!

why would anyone not want to go for their RPAL? Even if you don't have the faintest interest in pistol shooting now, who knows how you'll feel in a year or two? My feeling is that it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it

Ever stop to think that some people may have zero interest in aquiring a pistol or something ridiculously impractical like an AR 15? I only aquired my non-restricted to get the rifles I love from WW2 - if old milsurp didn't exist I would not have gone for my license in the first place, I genuinely dislike modern firearms. Also perhaps my mentor disagreed with pistols? Would you dishonour your mentor?

So my application completed initial processing and its now in progress, so I called in to see if I could get my interview done. They gave me the extension number 2533, but everytime I call that number, I get a french recording and it just disconnects me. I don't know how to speak french, so I have no idea what the message says, lol. Anyone having the same trouble?

Thats the extension they gave me for my references to call in. They called in and the call was answered though, not sure what happens if no one answers. Id say keep trying...

Smells like fail to me.

what should i do?

im. new to shooting. passed my rpal/pal test may 23, mailed app next day without (obviously) my stamped results with a note saying they would be faxed in when i get them, i check rcmp site daily & its saying "no matching info" should i start calling to see whats going on? i dont think it takes 2 weeks for mail to get from niagara to miramachi.....

it took almost 4 weeks for my info to show up on their website, I wouldn't worry for a while yet

No, I emigrated to Canada in early '07... so, 5yrs to date in Canada but they still wanted proof of 'good character' prior to '07 from the UK. Had to fax them a copy of my citizenship certificate as I had to get police clearence letter for that when we applied 2yrs ago.

So, (assuming) all your info is good, then once it gets to BC CFO it sits in a pile till someone gets round to checking & approving it. Will call again tomorrow & see if my extra info has been entered & is ok..... fingers crossed !
