I was browsing a magazine I picked up, Shotgun News and they had a fascinating article on a handgun I am interested in.

It is, according to the article the ONLY .357magnum automatic ever created.
It is "mostly" 1911 with some browning high power incorporated into it.

Have these ever been available in Canada? I would be interested in one of these for certain.

Questar is the importer. As far as the only 357 automatic, maybe back in the time but not anymore. The Desert Eagle is also available in 357 mag.
 
There are more than a few original versions floating around.

It's my understanding the second version, V2 with with the comp was the only one to get.

The first edition was more than a little finicky.

They are out there :)
 
there was one of the old ones floating around the EE a while back, same with a desert eagle .357. Interesting guns for sure!
 
I was beside a guy with one at the range a few months ago. I think his could only shoot wadcutters, I could be wrong. I thought it was kind of cool.
 
More than anything, I wonder how those feel in the hand. I like the idea behind it and if I were going to get a Magnum autoloader, with the way my tastes have developed, I'd rather have one based off of a 1911 than get a Desert Eagle.

Yep, wouldn't catch me dead with one of those 2000$ overpriced desert eagles. Plus the only appeal the desert eagle ever had was its .50ae cartridge...beyond that, whats the point?

This Coonan has ### appeal and cartridge appeal.

So I'm hearing it has a plethora of reliablity issues? This is with 1st generation models and not 2nd generation models? How do I tell the difference?

Oh I've owned a glock17...nice one too, but they feel like a brick in your hand. SR9 feels so much nicer.

But yah, like mentioned, take that g17 and widen the grip to accept .357 and my god can you just imagine the ergonomic nightmare.
 
I've owned an original coonan B for about 15 years...

It shoots great accurate and flawless..

It shoots anything except full wadcutters... it needs something to help it up the ramp..
 
Looked at the New Coonan's at SHOTSHOW 2012, really suprised how they have cut the weight of the newly designed guns, not like the original heavy guns, also very easy to convert to 38 special, differrent than the original guns for sure! Pretty much you order what you want, great feeling and looking gun to go along with your marlin or winchester lever, cheers Dale Z!
 
I do remember you couldn't use the Blaser aluminum-cased ammo in these, as there was a tendency for the case-head to get torn off and the next round rammed inside the leftover. ( an old G&A article IIRC )
