the 17 gn. hornady does pretty poor for me. at least this lot... ;-) im finding the 20 gn hornady the best.
and all this talk about ammo brands, i dunno. Do you guys know all the .17 stuff is basically loaded at the same facility? and almost all the bullets are hornady of some sort? (if not all).
after doing ALOT of testing, ive come to the conclusion that the brand name has alot LESS to do with anything.... Its more about the lot# of the ammo were using. (IE): ive tried 17 gn hornady and it performed great. Then after i ran out, i got more, and it shot differently. It turns out it was from a different lot, and therefore the spec was different, I suggest going over to .17 HMR dot net and checking it out there, there's a couple threads on just this subject. And a sticky explaining the loading of the ammo....
here's a c&p of that initial post....
From Linda Olin:
" CCI, Federal, Winchester, Remington and Hornady all loaded here at CCI in Lewiston, Idaho with a V-max bullet are identical, with the exception of tip color. Manufactured on the same equip, to the same ballistic specs, using the same components other than color of the tip of the bullets. Obviously the shellcase 'head stamp' and packaging would be different on the various products. "

there you go. and after reading this, it made sense to me..... what im doing now, is when i go out and buy ammo, ill buy three boxes of different stuff, what i usually have good luck with, and if one shoots better then the rest, ill go back and buy up a bunch of it, providing its from the same lot...... and the fact that i find the remington stuff a couple bucks more a box, doesnt add up.... ;-(
