Ladies and Gentlemen, the Garand has reached $2000+

While I agree that a seller can sell for whatever they want and that the market dictates the price, I was SHOCKED that it was SPF with a low view count and the fact it is a restoration job. That's what blows my mind.

I have an all matching (as in correct serial numbered parts) IHC Garand in mint condition. I bought it for a premium a few years ago and if the price of this rebuild is any indication, I may be flipping it soon.

There were fewer IHCs made than by any other US manufacturer. There are a number of interesting variations of the "tractor Garands", incl rifles made on receivers which were sub-contracted from both Springfield Armory and Harrington & Richardson to alleviate production shortfalls at IHC. IHC used contract barrels from LMR which have a reputation as excellent shooters.

Saw a post saying that WWII garands are worth $1k tops, and are being overpriced by optimistic sellers. Dunno the truth in that.

Or desperate buyers.

I qualify for the CMP in the States so my plan is to buy up some of those Korean M1's coming back home and sell enough of them up here to retire at this rate.

A fool and his money...

Just because someone is willing to pay stupid money for something doesn't mean that it's worth it...

Garands

Watching "Saving Private Ryan" and "Band of Brothers" with a Garand on my lap and a beer on table was memorable. If not for those two movies average Garands wouldnt fetch $600 today IMHO. Not knocking anyone that would pay big money for one though. Hell...look at the market price for legit "collector grade" German 98's, Ross's etc.

a bit off topic but of a similar vein if ya wanna DIY garand:

to build a garand from parts, that is even if you can find parts that aren't pooched, you are talking in the neighbourhood of 1,100 minimum.
more like 1300 bucks.
now if you want a "correct" garand of a rare date then good luck.

then to buld one you need at the minimum a barrel vice and action wrench(home made or not), a go and no go guage and better yet a field guage and
finally (if it's a new barrel) a pull through reamer and cutting oil along with the shaft and "t"-handle.the reamer kit goes for over 200 bucks to your door.

so people selling garands for over 1000 bucks is fair as long as the parts are as NOS as possible...

my 2 cents...

Back in the mid to late 90's, the Garand was the cheap affordable milsurp.

At the Calgary Gun Show (and at many dealers in the Gunrunner Paper), there were crates of SKS's there for $99.00
and racks of M1 Garands for $99.00 just to show you how they were priced.

You can thank Greed, the SPR movie, the BoB Series, the Gotta have it Now mentality and syndrome,
and You dressed up in your 101st Airborne costume!!! LOL, ePay and the Internet for the inflated prices.

Supply, Demand and Desperation.

Desperation is an emotional state in which a person feels a situation to be hopeless and without satisfactory options.

That IS one of the prettiest Garands I've seen...if the guy can sell it for that good on him. The market is what the market is...whether we agree with it or not is irrelevant.

In the meantime, I heard a rumor that the Peoples Republic of China
is releasing a movie called:

SAVING PRIVATE DONG 东, 栋

In 2032, your Chinese SKS might go 20 Times it's Value of today if the movie is a blockbuster hit and
gets a rating of 5 Kernels of Pop Corn!

That IS one of the prettiest Garands I've seen....

So are Mitchell's Mausers Pretty! LOL They are put together, repro parts, reblued, renumbered, not original.....and Pretty!
Ever seen one of their K98 SS rifles or their ads?

Is Pretty the new replacement word for common sense when buying? It just might be...
