if you look at the stolen list, the model number are pretty much all Colt product designations and models names, only Colt uses "AR15", Armilite uses M15, Stag simply call it Model 1,2,3, RRA uses LAR-15 so on and so on.....

So in typical journalistic fashion his research was superficial at best and the number of AR variant rifle count in country is highly skewed ;)

Bingo!

There are many firearms that are generically ARs, but searching the Registry for "AR-15" will only produce hits for those registered as such.

An example from years ago which was used to show how useless the Registry is was the Colt SAA. These are registered using numerous different established names: Model P; Frontier Six Shooter: SAA; Single Action Army, etc.

Then there are all the guns registered incorrectly.....

Glen isn't about to let facts get in the way of a story.....
