Shorten PAL Approval Times

Mailed off my RPAL application on June 24th. It finally showed up on the RCMP website today, saying it was "received" July 3rd. I'll give them a call next week to see if everything is in order. Cant hurt right?

Called the CFC today just to check in and ensure my paperwork was in order. They were very nice, confirmed my application was processing, and offered to do my interview right there.

They then managed to get a hold of my references and interview them within the hour, even before I had time to give them the heads up. That felt nice, a couple steps closer.

My interview were done last Weds. So was my 28 day waiting period. License issued yesterday at 4pm. So expect your license to be issued later today (now) or Friday afternoon.

Well guess im in for a wait... Mines been assigned to someone whos out on annual leave until the 7th!

I live in Orillia, I have no idea why it needed to go to a different officer.

Well thats a huge kick in the balls. My plans for shooting next week are scratched.

Call back and ask to speak to a Firearms officer. When you get one on the phone, explain whats going on and ask to speak to the Supervisor. She can help either with approving it over the phone or she might assign it to another officer.

My application was received on June 28
Interviews last week and yesterday
Called today and told it was sent to the british Columbia Officer for the last stage in the application process.

Anybody have an idea about how much longer I'm going to be waiting?

Thanks OP for the advise. Here's my timeline

June 21/12 - CRFSC/CFSC completed
June 22/12 - Mailed Forms to CFO with Regular Stamp/envelope
June 29/12 - Received at CFO
July 17/12 - Application posted online
July 20/12 - Faxed stamped tests to CFO
July 27/12 - All interviews done
July 27/12 - License is ISSUED!

Now I'm just waiting for my rPAL in the mail.

Good luck everybody!

They received my application June 07 and I still haven't got it, online says its finished initial processing, called bc CFO last week and they said 4 months from receiving your app to issuing is expected right now it's crazy!!! So much for guns at the cabin

My CFSC results came back rubber stamped today.

Exam was on July 7th, stamp is dated July 16th. 7 day turn around isn't too bad. I hope I can expect the same for my CRFSC results, which would then arrive next Monday.

Interestingly, the postmark on the envelope is dated the 20th. Guess it sat in an office for 4 days waiting to get mailed out.

CRFSC results came back today, rubber stamped on the 25th.

I tried twice, once with the CFO of Orillia, and once through the 1-800 number. Both times I was forwarded to someones answering machine. Left a message on both, hopefully they can sort it out, but it looks like that'll have to wait til at least monday as the CFOs are done at 4:30 and online hasnt changed.
Bah humbug!:bangHead:

Are u serious? I though it was average 45 days? What is this 4 month wait ??
How can I call BC CFO?

That is odd. I am in BC, and my RPAL was issued July 2nd, 2012--exactly 28 days after my application was received by the RCMP in Miramachi. I got my license in the mail about 2 weeks later.

My LTATT is another story. It has been 3.5 weeks and they still won't even give me an estimate of when it will be processed.

dontshow, did you have your PAL already?

Valentina,I heard there are renewals that have gone longer than 6 months to process through this office.leaving people holding firearms without a valid licence.
There are also first time PAL apps as old as march yet to be assigned to a firearms officer for background checks,so don't hold your breath:bangHead:
If your MP is a Conservative ,send a letter or email. They have ways to get things done that we don't.

Here is a letter recently sent out by the BCWF President Bill Bosch. We're doing what we can to get things moving.

Dear Minister Toews:

I am writing because our members are concerned that there is an unreasonable delay in renewing firearm licenses in the BC Chief Firearms Officer’s office. Apparently, this delay is due to personnel problems that have resulted in staffing shortages.

While the problem is general I will describe one specific case as an illustration. One of our members has been waiting since 23 March when renewal papers were submitted. This is unacceptable. Repeated calls to the BC CFO’s office have elicited the excuse that the case is assigned to an officer to do the background check. It is unreasonable that processing a firearm license would take over three months. Applicants should be accepted or rejected more expeditiously. In previous years, firearms licenses were issued with a lag of no more than 3 weeks to one month.

In this particular case, the delay in issuing the license has taken so long that the licensed has expired. Individuals who allow their license to expire are in criminal possession of firearms. The license has now expired even though the individual in question submitted the necessary paperwork with plenty of time. The expiry is entirely due to the BC CFO’s office not acting in time. The individual in question has no way to show they are not in criminal possession of their lawfully purchased and used firearms.

Our members would appreciate your efforts to encourage the BC CFO’s office to expedite their duties more quickly.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

No. This is my first PAL ever. I have also never had a FAC or POL. I should note that I was very proactive about getting my license. I sent in my paperwork via registered mail. I called twice and emailed once checking to make sure that got it. It took about 3 weeks to show up online. The day it was online I called in for my interview. Both my references called in within days for their interviews.

If your MP is a Conservative ,send a letter or email.

Please write your MP, regardless of party. It is important that we raise the profile of this issue with all parties. I do suggest that if your MP is not Conservative that you be particularly polite.

We should also contact our MLAs. The provincial government has the option of replacing the CFO, so they bear some responsibility for resolving this problem.

Seems like it's a bit of a crapshoot in bc these days. My interviews were done 82 days ago. Still no license :(

OK - that's insane. Not cool. You should be notified either way, even if you didn't get approved for any reason.

Stay on them. I'm at about 45 days, but mine should finally be issued this week. My CFO is back from holidays this week, finally.

I'm pumped to get the damn thing out of the way and move on from these forums, lol. That said, I'm VERY grateful to have found this site. It has really helped. You all rock! I'll add my stats once I get the official word that it's issued.

I haven't been able to check my status online for about 3 days, am I the only one this is happening too?

when I got to this (http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/index.htm) and click English it nothing pops up.

I get the same thing. The problem is definitely on their end.

For the curious geeks...
