How many guys are running this round? It looks like a great all round cartridge for my needs. 120 real fast and it can push a high bc 160-168 gr bullet at a good clip too.

i have a 7saum basicly the same thing. doesn't do anything my 7rem can do but does it in a smaller package. nice round but only duplicates what other sevens do. its very close to the 280ai as well.

270 , go for 270WSM. You can shoot little faster and little flatter and you can come hunt in Ontario with 270. If you really looking for more punch with same amount of money and more accessibility to ammo, go for 300WSM - Biggs

I agree 270WSM killed 7WSM and can do anything that 7WSM except handle 160gr and over bullets.
You can launch a 140gr Accubond at 3200fps and a Barnes 110gr TSX at 3400+ fps.

7WSM is a better cartridge but was killed in the market by 270WSM.

The cartridge has somewhat faded away in the shadows of the 270 WSM, 7mm Rem, Mag, 7mm-08, 7x57, 280 AI, el al. Much could be said the same for the 243 WSSM and 25 WSSM. A great cartridge but not as popular as the noted above.

firstly cause you live in southern ontario doesn't mean you can speak for all of ontario. and secondly a 7 mm can be used in southern ontario

The 7WSM is a long ways from dead. There are several rifle companies that chamber the 7WSM in factory rifles currently, and there is plenty factory ammo available on the shelves. Dies are brass and easily found. The 7WSM is alive and well!

And I run one, BTW, since the OP asked. ;)

jordan your running a montana right? what kind of speeds do you get with 120s, 140s and 162s?

there is zero chance of me running a 270 short, there just isnt the bullets or the ballistic that come with a .277 pill. might slum a 300wsm to see if i like it.

not sure where your coming from when you state there isn't good enough bullets for you

nosler baliist tip 130 .433 bc

barnes ttsx 110 gr .377

sierra matchking 135 .488

hornaday 150 interlock .525

berger 150s vld .532

basically my point is if you can't get it done with these bullets...

im a 7mm guy from way back, it was bigger and badder than the 270 win. there is nothing wrong with the 270wsm other than its a .277, but the 270s dont even have the slightest intrest for me. im looking to build and having some thing different that most guys appeals to me, and then there is the 162A-Max...

I haven't tried the 120's from this rifle, but I get right around 3295-3300fps with the 140's and 3105fps with the 162's. Great brass life and easy action cycling.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, between the 3 calibers, 7mm gives the most for the least.

I recently acquired a 7mm SAUM...it's likely deader than the WSM, but I really like it.
Very accurate and decent velocities.
I read where some of the long range competition gurus have taken the SAUM into their bosom. Maybe some hope yet.
Regards, Eagleye

I'd get a 7WSM in a heartbeat. I've owned three 7saum's, it's a hell of a cartridge. Likely going to get a full blown custom built in 7saum this winter. I have five boxes of Nosler ammo sitting here for it :D and a McMillan mtn rifle stock

how are you getting those volcitys? your posting speeds 150 fps faster then then hotest loads in my loading books? hotest i seen was 3163 with 140 and a 270wsm with 140 was 3165

I have a bud that has built a few target rifles in both 270 WSM, and 7mm WSM..
He said that warm loads in the 7mmWSM wear out barrels rather quickly. He has stated that accuracy starts to decline @ 700-900 rounds, where the 270 WSM is around the 600 rnd mark..Just a bit of info for you if this makes any difference.

This fella shoots alot so I take his word on such subjects.
