Picture of the day

rifle is cocked...he's about to take a shot. Why is there no cheekriser on this No1 Mk3? I thought all military enfield snipers would have been fitted with the riser when the scope became mounted??

Don't tell me Bubba was with the troopies in Korea!! :p

i dont know if any aussie snipers had the riser, but i know of a few pictures that show them without

just because its cocked doesnt mean he is about to shoot, i could be unloaded or it could have been kept in a ready state as common practice, this would have been a war zone after all

Good day fellow Gunnutz New day new picture :)

Rugged looking bunch.

Thanks Recce21 for telling what battle. I did a little reading and learned a little about this battle and our boys contribution.

No problem. Fantastic book on the battle is Ortona by Mark Zuehlke. Ortona was the battle that the term "mouse holing" originated from. The Germans had all the streets covered by MG's, snipers and prepared defensive positions so the Canadians had to blast holes in the stone row houses and fight house to house that way. I studied the tactics of assualting Ortona during a PD ex with the Army which was a fantastic suppliment to reading about just the history.

My buddies Great Grandfather won the Military Medal at San Leonardo with the Calgary Tanks just outside of Ortona.

it is really sad how few people in canada even realize the fighting our lads did in italy, it isnt even touched upon in high school history these days, but it was incredible what we accomplished there

das ischt an KETTENKRAD, a small traktor for the paratroopers- used to tow all kinds of things, including a mule for the me262- std was a 37mm gun- supposed to fit inside a ju52, but they must had to knock it down first, as the door isn't wide enough, unlike the dak

The NSU Kettenkrad (Kettenkraftrad or Heavy Tracked Motorcycle) had a water-cooled Opel Olympia auto engine, so it packed a lot more power than it might look. Useful even for towing a PaK-36.

New pic: looks like a Japanese soldier with a Steyr-Solothurn SMG. Wonder what ammo the thing took; they were available in several types, including 9mm Steyr, 9mm Parabellum and 9mm Export, 7.63 Mauser, 7.65 Luger and .45ACP. Heavy, ugly, expensive and very versatile. China had a number of the critters; wonder if this is one.

didnt these have a mag loader built into the mag well?

i wonder why more modern stuff (magpul?) doesnt include a similar feature

Interesting he has the shorter Wakizashi sword rather than a Shin Gunto Katana.....a versatile tool for indoors, vehicles, or close quarters where the Katana might gut hung up or have vertical issues.
