Just got in the mail from Wolverine.

Went with a cheapish scope setup.

Hi-Lux 2-7x42 with burris quick disconnect mount.

Congratulations on the new toy. Don't pay attentions to the ignorant people who don't get the need for that 10 round mag.

I've had one (a lefty) on order for ions. The scope does look a little high though...and big. It seems like it might affect the balance point of the rifle. If I put a scope on mine it will be a fixed power one..they are really small which I believe will help keep the concept of this rifle realistic..short, light and deadly.
Have fun!

I wanted it high for quick target acquisition and firing with both eyes open so I went with the burris QD.

The bottom line is whatever works for you BUT I would be careful with mounting that scope so high. What might seem like an advantage to have the scope high might hinder your accuracy do to a different position of the rifle than what you are used to.

That is the problem with ordering things online... I just messed around with it a bit and find the scope to be a bit high for bench shooting where I want to get a good cheek weld... may have to see if I can return the mount for some lower rings.

Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle

I have had one for about a year...........have the 10 rd.mag. and now a metal 5 rd. mag....would like one of the 3 rd. polymer mags but cannot find one in Canada. And, if I had my druthers, I would replace the heavy laminated stock with a much lighter synthetic one.......but again, I am not aware anyone makes one....

the gunsite scout is a pretty cool rig. if i had one id mount a pro point up on the rail.
cheers eh.

If you are still looking for a "lefty", they are in stock and on sale at Wolverine. http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/5792/Ruger-Gunsite-Scout-Left-hand-308-win.aspx

iirc the 3 rd mags are available from Brownells for $30 and they will ship to Canada for about $6.

I am currently seriously looking at the GSR because it has a laminate stock.
Look at almost all of the $500-1000 rifles with synthetic stocks and they have rigidity issues. Google the Rem 700 models with synth stock and see that everyone has to either modify or replace the stock because it bends (typically touching the "floating" barrel in this case).
So buying a Rem 700 and replacing the stock with a better non-flexing $800+ AICS stock puts it into a completely different price bracket, effectively doubling the cost right out the door.
If I could get a Rem 700 with wood or laminate stock for the price of the GSR, I would do so, and just get the barrel cut to 18".
So bottom line for me, all of the plastic stock junk in the $500-1000 range is pretty much dictating that a GSR will probably be in my future.

That said, I believe there are some third-party synthetic stocks for the Ruger M77 models, so whether any will fit directly I couldn't say.

What I personally don't like about the looks and design of the GSR are:
- The long 10 rd mag (but the 5 or 3 will solve this).
- Rail and Sights should not have been black.
- The front sight barrel bulge.
- Can't co-witness.

I sold the Ruger('s) I owned because they are too heavy for their intended purpose. Probably would go Tikka Batue next time, if I want a scout type rifle again.

OP- I had the same scope in low QD Leupold rings and they worked much better than your set up. Def too high.

I have the GSR and it's pretty good. The only problem is that Ruger seems to be so retarded when it comes to being close to getting it right and then screwing up. What is up with the wobbly magazine, which is an AI clone they call "Accurate Mag". Why is there no clip charger guide on there, I get that it's a single stack magazine, but why not just use the M14 mags. I get that they would have been pinned to 5 in Canada, but still, the mag system on this gun is stupid. You can't drop a round in the chamber because the rifle uses the stupid modified mauser bolt, which wobbles and hangs up if you try to cycle it like an enfield. They got the trigger, rail, sights, stock, stainless, and weight right but they were so close to having a good product and screwed it all up, just like their 357/77 line of guns which are outright terrible.

With this said I'm going to try those Alpha Industry double stack magazines that are said to work well with this gun. If they do, they'd most likely top feed and you could probably CNC together a clip charger guide / rear sight combo. I can live with a crappy bolt and not being able to chamber feed the gun so long as I can quickly top drop into the mag like you can an Enfield or SVT40
