Stevens 200....

Jerry@ Mystic Precision is timing the bolt for my 111 package gun in .243 right now. I bought the 111 instead of a Stevens for the DBM. I did an oversize bolt knob, stiffened the front of the stock (carbon fibre tube and epoxy) and reset the headspace (I'll have to do that again when I reinstall the barrel). It shoots great and when I burn out this barrel I will probably put a .243AI one on it from Jerry @ Mystic Precision. I am thinking about doing this to the stock in the near future ht tp://www.longrangehunting.com/articles/savage-tactical-rifle-project-1.php

I just a quick question if your gonna buy the boyds stock and the basix's trigger.. why not spend a bit more on the inital purchase of the rifle???? maybe a tika or a higher grade Savage with the accu-trigger.. Just a question!!!! the Stevens is a good choice but if your gonna add the extras anyways why not look at a bit higher level of shootin iron to start with??? not sure about the stock but the trigger will cost you about $100 bucks if we say 150 or 200 for the stock then your up to about 550 bucks. and you'd have to do the work to the gun to start shootin!!!

You can get the savage xp hunter for about 499 bucks at basspro right now and it comes with a nikon prostaff scope and the accutrigger. (Just some food for thought)

I completely understand the Stevens 200 purchase.... and it is always fun and cool to trick out your pee shooter yourself (makes you feel like you help to make it shoot so well) enjoy either way you decide to go!!!

I'm one of those guys that just loves to mod stuff. I love getting my hands into something and making it into what i want. Nothing i drive, shoot or enjoy can stay stock. I could spend more money on another rifle but the idea of buying an item from a fellow member makes me happy.

Anyone one can buy a great rifle but it takes a guy like me to build their own idea of cool.

Not sure if that makes sense but being a gearhead.... it makes a lot of sense to me.

Thanks!

I dislike TV a lot so i try to stay busy with hobbies. I jack up 4x4 trucks, rebuild chainsaws, go hunting and fishing. Any reason to help me stay outside seems to suit me.

Hope you know what i mean.

BTW, thanks to everyone for their ideas and opinions! I appreciate it!

go to a higher grade of savage product. accutrigger is slick and works well. i found the stevens have very loosly tapped action screws.

just sold one more of my stevens and wont miss it

I'll give it a try regardless.

I really don't want to spend the extra money on something else i don't know if I'll like.

The 111 Package rifle isn't a lot more and you can get $50 for the takeoff scope easy. The Rifle Basix trigger is a great addition and costs less than getting a base model with Accutrigger. I did it to mine though I forgot to mention that in my previous post:redface: I like the DBM though it does slim the choices in after market stocks.
