I spent my 2012 summer vacation in Germany and Austria. We diden't want to see too much war time relic and monument but there is so much left of the third reich period that we dident have much of a choice.....we have to stop by a couple of historic place.
I am not agree with any ideologies of the Third reich but i taught it was to important and significant historicly to just pass by.

This is the Congresshalles built in Nuremberg in the 30's. Never finished, it was built just next to the more famous Zepplin Field. The whole southern part of Nuremberg was seized by the Nazis to built more and more buildings and fields for their week long rally's.

A gun shop in Rothenburg. My heart just broke in there. Sorry for the crapy pics, the owner of the shop quickly ask me to not take pictures. There was a beautiful 1937 portugese contract K98 in there. All matching and very expensive. Many many others K98 and Gew43.:eek::eek:

Hope someone like this thread.

Thanks for the pics, we are headed to Germany next summer. I wonder what it would take to import some of them K98's or a K43 to Canada? The wife would kill me if I even tried!

Aaahhhh Berchtesgaden, my happy place. I want to move or retire there.

Best beer I ever had ever is there at the Hofbrauhaus, Josef the owner is a stand up guy.

Wow... thanks for the pictures, quite powerful and somehow different from when you see those locations on TV.

Most of the purely military structures like the bunkers and flaktowers were demolished (or partially demolished), and many other Nazi buildings were taken down too especially on the Soviet side of the country, such as the Chancellery building. A lot of other places like the ones above remain.

Personally I think these infamous places should remain standing forever, otherwise it is too easy to forget the past.

Cool pics... Thanks for sharing... While Nazi Germany wasn't the best of times, you are right... It is always important to rememeber the history... plus there was some great architecture from that time and place.

Nice pics of some historical places. And look at all those mausers!! Not being able to buy them or bring them back would break my heart to.

Thanks for sharing!

Great visits, good bad and ugly. Life everywhere is the same. While political millionaire cronies sip tea over great vistas, average people are working away at the unattractive spots. And some are even wrongly put away.
Nice 98s by the way!

Great Pictures

Many memories there.

These building will stay there now Lock Time !
Since 1973, the Rally grounds building and fields in Nuremberg are protected and will be in from now on for future generation. A part of the Congreshalles was turned into a musem only dedicated to explain the Fatal attraction to Hitler , national socialisme and the whole frenzy surrounding the Rally's.

In 1973, a promoter decided to buy the rally grounds and buildings and turn them into more modern sports facility but the German gouvernement decided it was time to live with the past and not try to forget it completly anymore.
I don't think the building will be restored however. The restauration of the Zepplin field alone is estimated at 70 millions Euro's.

For the Eagles nest, the major of Berchestgaden in 1945 manage to convince the 101 airborne comandant to not blow it up. He said « ordinary poeples pay and worked to build this site, can ordinary poeples enjoy it in the future please?? »
He was right, more than 6000 poeples a day in average climb up there to see the place, the most visited monument in whole Germany.

I would imagine those K98s would be really expensive, after all there is a 21% sales tax
in Europe. Were they deactivated?
I would imagine Tradeex in Montreal would have anything in that gunshop

No sir, not deactivated at all. To give you an idea of the price range:

The Portugese contract 1937 all matching was at 1000 Euros
A Normal K98 matching was between 700-1200 euros according to the overall condition.

I see a real ZF39 sniper with a double trigger set ( no pics sorry :() at 4000 euros.

The prices where high but the quality and autheticity was even greater.

The owner of the Shop ( nice guy buy the way ) told me that the price and demand on the third reich firearm and relic like helmets and medals as just reach a climax in the last two years or so..........just like here in America

They also probably had their markings peened.

The ones in the widow of the shop or at the view of everyone have their marking peened.

When you go in the backstore.... this is an other story. I even see a complete Fallschirmjager kit.. Jump suit, chute, helmet, parade uniform, sword, hat, medals and personal photo album of that same guy. All this was not ""denazified"" and the price tag was somthing else...25000 euro's.
