Meeting place for Newbies and Mentors -Ontario

Mentors In Ontario

Anybody aware of any pistol training courses available anywhere?
I tried Phase Line Green Tactical but they are full for the upcoming courses and have nothing left until April, 2013.
Looking for the beginners and advance courses.

Thank you,
Kris

Hey Ibi -- Despite my name, I'm sort of a newbie too. I have a Mossberg 500 tactical, Benelli Supernova, Remmy 870 Marine Magnum and a scoped CZ 452 American, for now. My next 22LR will be a Ruger 10/22 Takedown (once Rugers gets their stock back into stores again). Also on the shortlist is the Norinco M4/ CQa which is cheap and from all reports quite awesome.

Handgun-wise I'm planning to buy a CZ SP-01 Shadow for Black Badge down the road, and/or a Glock 17, so I'm now looking for a membership for my ATT.

I live at King & Spadina - spend a lot of time with family in Etobicoke as well. I've shot at the Estonian House shooting range (Broadview & Danforth) but only as a guest as I'm not Estonian, and I've been invited to TRC as a guest (but haven't gone yet). Am planning to join either TRC or Lakeshore Arms (the Bunker), as it's real close to my folks in Etobicoke.

We should hook up Ibi (or anyone else in downtown Toronto/ Etobicoke/ Mississauga who reads this) -- it's hard to find like-minded gun enthusiasts, as almost all of my friends dislike guns (lol), so I'm like a black sheep among 'em.

If anyone wants to grab a coffee and talk guns and plan for something at a range, then shoot me a PM here, or email me at barrett5ocal@yahoo.com.
(If emailing: the zero in 5ocal is the letter o)

I'm also planning to go to the Sharon range this fall with my Estonian friend who's a member. That's a place where I can practice with my shotties as the downtown ranges only allow rimfires.

Hey man, I live in Etobicoke too, right beside the airport, pretty much in the same boat, on have 2 friends with gun licenses, everyone else is too lazy to go and get theirs and just comes to my house to hold mine lol.

There's some local members on here that usually go out for beer and wings, never been but we should probably check it out, its posted in the events and gathering section at the bottom of the forum

Hi everyone,

I am in Pickering and have just joined The Grange. I haven't completed their club safety course yet, althoguh I am assured they will get me in in the next few weeks. Just looking to meet some people in this area that share my interest in firearms. I have a Ruger 1911 although i just get to rub it for now. I would like to round out my collection over the next year or 2 but don't really know where to start. Anyone interested in having someone to shoot with let me know!

Yes I have gone there a few times to shoot as an unlicensed shooter. Its a nice facility. The employees are kinda hit and miss. Some are downright rude. I figure i will try it out for the year as it is expensive and see how it goes. I have pistols so I need a membership somewhere just to get an ATT.

Can't say I was ever impressed with the people but it seems as choices are limited they don't really care about being nice or helpful. Hopefully the members are better than the staff.

The best place to do that (get ATT, quicker) would be Silverdale Gun Club. The guys are quick to make sure all of your paperwork gets processed fast and you take your club safety courses as soon as possible. Within in a month or so you can be all done.
I have been there a few times and really like the people which is a huge bonus considering they also have a very nice range (outdoor only, for now).
The new memberships are open as of Oct. 1, 2012 and I will be applying.

I've got my license for a little over a year now but still in the process of looking for a club to join. I'm going to head to galt on wednesday and check things out. I'm from scarborough so finding a club that is close and affordable is difficult. I considered Oshawa but they are not accepting members until april 2013. I'm not sure if they have a rifle range either.

So far I narrowed it down to Galt and Silverdale. Galt is closer by around 30 mins so that's the first choice. Either way it's going to be a long drive anywhere I go to shoot.

I will be joining the two clubs within a month or so (first Galt, then Silverdale)...if you want to carpool let me know.

Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself to fellow Toronto folks. I like out in Etobicoke and work downtown. Have been a firearms owner for about three years so far and was a member of Grange for a while. Just picked up a mossberg and looking for some folks that have been target shooting up north.
