Meeting place for Newbies and Mentors -Ontario

does anyone here go to Silverdale Club in St. Anns and shoot handguns? I'm 18, i live like 10 minutes from the club and have my PAL and a couple rifles/shotguns, but am going for my RPAL in March and interested in checking out some different handguns and different calibers.

I am newbie to firearms and recently acquired my PAL (NR/Restricted). After waiting around for a few months, finally went over to Colby Shooters World and signed up for a membership. I still have to do the club handgun safety course but was hoping there is a mentor out there who can help in getting my first real rounds out :) I do have a car and can provide transport if needed. Maybe there are other newbies in the Cambridge/Kitchener/Waterloo region that would like to meet up?

I'm in Burlington but have been thinking about joining a club up that way. I have lots of friends and family up there so I'm up that way a lot.

I'll check out Colby Shooters.

Hello all,
I recently just passes my PAL/RPAL exams and i have my hunting course on Feb 8th. The shooting sports now have me hooked and i can't wait to purchase some firearms when i finally get my licence in the mail. One problem though, i'm looking to join a club to be able to shoot my restricted firearms and just for general target practice. I live in Oshawa about 40 minutes east of Toronto. I cannot find a club that's even looking at new members until the summer. Any tips? I don't know anyone who is part of a club and it seems so hard to find something.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Anyone a member of the Cornwall Handgun Club?
I've been to EOSC a few times as a guest, but it's a bit too far away/expensive. Cornwall is the best option I have but have never been there and would like to check the place out before signing up.

I just bought my first rifle last weekend - Savage Mark II FVXP .22LR - and I read on the site they allow handgun calibre rifles at CHC.

anyone from the brantford/st. george area? i live in hamilton but am actually on the city limmits in a town called lynden, if anyone is around me im a newbie willing to listen and learn anything that can be taught.

any mentors willing to take a person out to the range? It's been a while since I got my license and it's so difficult to get range time in the GTA. All the clubs are either not accepting new members or do not allow walk on/visitors without someone already in the club accompanying him/her. I really want to finally sight in my rifle that I had for almost 2 years but never got the chance to shoot it because I don't know where to go. I'm willing to compensate your time and effort with coffee, ammo, and/or cash. Sounds kinda desperate but yea, left with no choice as I'm a first generation shooter in my family. So no connections to get me started in this awesome sport of target shooting and hunting.

Thanks.
John

Good Evening, Ladies and Gentlemen. I am looking at getting into shooting sports. I am in the Parry Sound area, tho I do drive but don't often get full weekends off so it makes taking a regular PAL and RPAL course a little difficult. I would be interested in finding someone to help me get some practice to potentially challenge the exam or finding an irregular course schedule. lol Thanks

Gerry Haarmeyer - 705-375-5618, you can find his course dates at http://www.ohep.net/InstDetails.cfm?ID=164&h=0. I have seen his courses advertised at the Parry Sound Hunters and Anglers and the Parry Sound Pistol Club. They are on Friday to Sunday but maybe he could make an exception for you or help you challenge the exam. http://www.psah.org/
Gary Jennings (705-378-2360) is also an instructor in the Parry Sound area.
The third person I know of Jovan Priljeva (705-378-1768) and he also instructs out of the Parry Sound Hunters and Anglers and the Parry Sound Pistol Club.

Just wanted to make a quick post. New to this forum and to shooting. Just took my CFSC and CRFSC this past weekend and passed both courses. I sent my PAL / RPAL application in yesterday based on another thread on this forum, will follow those instructions to try and speed up the process (which I anticipate to be slow). Now it is just a waiting game on that end.
Going to go out to have a quick tour of the EOSC this weekend. But I was wondering if there are any guys in Ottawa that wouldn't mind a noob tagging along to a range with them. I think I will be looking at getting into both rifle and handgun shooting.
Not really for this section but my thoughts right now are a 22LR rifle to start, have an opportunity to possibly get a Remington 700 in .223 and I am thinking for my handgun selection - getting a Glock 19 with a 22 conversion kit. Obviously all this once I get the actual licence :)
Anyway, if there are any guys heading to the range as the weather warms up, would love the opportunity.
Thanks
Nigel

Yes, I am also in the Ottawa area... I am new to the firearms world and have been lurking on the site trying to sponge up as much information as possible. like Static030 above, I'd love to tag along with some experienced shooters especially if you are into long range shooting. I will undoubtedly spend hoooooooours learning to shoot the basics but I like to jump in at the deep end and any tips/advice/skills i can take from you all will be much appreciated.

Any members from the Eastern Ontario Shooting Club on here? I'm taking my safety course / membership this weekend. Still in the waiting phase for my PAL/RPAL. Just looking to possibly get some trigger time with some members. Would like to be able to try a few different pistols out to help determine what I will feel comfortable with for my first purchase. Will pay for ammo. :)
Thanks - Nigel

Anyone a member of Silverdale? I joined yesterday and looking for a mentor to go shooting with. I've actually never shot a round yet. Anyhow, give me a shout if you're a member and don't mind me shadowing you the first time out.

Thanks.

I'm a student in Ottawa, waiting on my license. Don't have any family around to teach me so was wondering if anyone would be down to show me basic rifle maintenance. Last thing I want to do after making my first purchase is ruin it with improper care. I'd really appreciate it and would do my best to return the favor!

Silverdale is a great range. Fortunately you don't need to be a member to shoot there. On Saturdays and Sundays non-members can use the range for $20.
