From what I've read like a 6.5x55 and brass can be made by FL sizing 22-250.......Harold
Anyone have a chance to run this Cal in the field yet?
I'm aware of the Range/Competitive qualities & the comparisons to .270 Win, just wondering how it stacks up against mid-large Game?
my oldest son ph'd Cabela's to see if they had a new Savage light weight hunter in stock in the 6.5 Creedmore. answer was "yes" we do! He set sail right-o-way and when he got there the Savage Rep was there and told him to go for the 260 instead, if it was to be a hunting rifle. The other is best left to long range target shooting, at this time. Also the fact that the light weight hunter is not a suitable long range shooting rifle. He came home with the 260.
I always though it was 308 based ?
The 6.5 creedmore/260/6.5x55 are all peas in a pod. The 6.5x55 was/is a good round. It it needed an up date, the 6.5creedmore/260 do that. They are loaded to higher pressures that give them the same speeds as the old swede but in a smaller case.
I like the 6.5 creedmore case design but would shoot a 260 as well
6.5x55 can't catch the 260. i know i tried. blew primers out of the 6.5x55 . came close but not quite. that was 5 gr over max btw
260 rem is

Take a look a Vihtavuori modern 6.5x55 load data (139gr at 2880fps with a long target barrel).
I suspect that you used a powder with a too fast burning rate.
6.5x55 has greater case capacity than 260 Rem so it has to be more potent when loaded at the same pressure.

Did the Savage rep give any specific reason for dissing the 6.5C as a hunting cartridge? The bullet is just a6.5 bullet like any other - once it leaves the muzzle it doesn't matter what cartridge it popped out of as long as it is stabilized. Was it something to do with the savage rifle -twist rate or something?
just spoke to Sr Jr on the ph. He said the Savage Rep told him that absolutely nothing would be cheap about the 6.5 C, brass, reloading supplies etc. No cheap factory ammo available, none! Not that we want or use cheap s**te, but, he pointed that out! And the fact that here in this fine Centre-of-Canada, stockless empty shelved location, factory ammo would likely be hard to find at times, most times. And any advantage in accuracy would not be noticed in any way with the lil Savage light weight hunter rifle, so he strongly avised him to go for the 260 instead! He wanted the customer to be happy with the purchase of a hunting rifle! I think it was the right choice. The 260 puts nothing but super smiles on all of our faces, including my yougest Jr with his Ruger M77 Stainless/walnut and me with my Browning s/s Stalker. Got nothing against the 6.5 C and no experience with it. Looking forward to up and coming info on it.
This is not necessarily so, case taper and shoulder angle also play a part in how a case handles pressure. Different makes of brass also have vast differences in ability to handle pressure.
Your statement needs to be qualified with "more case capacity = more velocity" IN THE SAME SHAPE CASE, especially when were talking small capacity differences like 308 based to swede.
The same holds true of the 6mm rem and 243 Win, the 243 out performs the rem with less powder. It handles the pressure differently, now if you AI the 6mm rem you jump into a whole other realm and it smokes the 243, by over 200 fps with only a little more powder. Again it's case design.
Another good example is the 300 H+H to the 06 AI. the H+H will pressure out before the AI giving a slight velocity advantage to the AI, but if you improve the H+H case (300 Wby) it leaves the 06 AI way back in the dust.

I love my 260AI for a hunting rig (use mine on a LA Savage action, DBM 111 stock). Very impressed with the results there if you are willing to tinker. 260 rem is no slouch either if you are not a tinkerer.
Now some say you may run into feeding/chambering issues with the AI but I've not had any issues in the field so far with the aformentioned set up. The AI is even addicting enough to consider buying a reamer![]()
