Lets see some pics of your Tacticool VZ 58/858s

Is that a model 512 on a NEA handguard? Looks the same as this one I've got here that does not fit. The one with the full base. Did you grind down the stops on that handguard? Was thinking of doing the same but wasn't sure if it would compromise the structural integrity of the aluminium.

Hey, I'm not sure of the model, but it has the flat base (no clearance). It did not fit the NEA rail, so I filed the end of the rail into a square to accommodate the sight. It holds zero perfectly without any play. My advice would be to be conservative in your filing. Better to have to incrementally remove more material than to take too much off.

Good luck!

here's one of my 58's, the one that gets out all the time.......love the co-witness of iron sights under the scope mount...plus cover and bolt carrier can be removed for cleaning , without removing scope...so the mount can be locked tight permanent..
shell deflection doesn't seem to be a problem (i very slightly angled the extractor..rnds kick out at roughly 2 o' clock...instead of 1 o' clock))...but i'll install a deflector anyway

ok Guys, I saw 161 pages of mods and I'm flabbergasted by your ability.
Being a newbie with a plain new 858 what are the cheapest way to have:
- front quad rail
- Middle AK style rail
- ergonomic grip
- ergonomic stock
Can you suggest some kit that does this?
thanks

Start with a VZ 58 that comes with the M4 style stock and pistol style grip, then get either the BCtactictal front handguard/quadrail or the NEA front grip and upper rail (cheaper but not as nice, JUST MY OPINION).
Thats really all you need. But, IMO, start with the VZ as it already comes with the stock and adapter and tube, grip etc etc. Plus, its built a bit nicer. By the time you buy a CZ and add this stuff the cost will be nearly the same.

thanks, I have already a CZ. I think the VZ is restricted in Canada?

The VZ is not restricted in canada unless you get a compact or sporter...

I got a few of my parts from Zahal... fast shipping, no hassles. Faster shipping to canada that stores in the US. Crazy.

Not all that tacticool, I like things simple, just bored so I'll post a pic.;)

The only mod to it is an original style (left side only) VZ-58 AK Lightning Bolt. The rest is just dressing up. I sprayed bed liner over the beaverpuke, it has nice grip to it. OD Krylon over the chipped grey paint (missed a spot on the front sling mount, string was in the way), and black krylon on a mag just for kicks. SOE single point bungee sling.

The blur on the mag was a smudge on the camera lense.

keep in mind that if you get a "straight tube" style m4 set-up...u will not be able to use the original iron sights. Fab defense makes a good line of stocks for the 58 that are all sloped down like the original....also fab defense makes IMHO the best pistol grip for the 58 out there......all these are available at wolverine

if you really want a m4 style stock....get the nea adapter, it will angle the stock correctly....and if you install a magpul CTR buttstock...you can buy snap on cheek risers for a scope, if you install it later

i LOVE the od green....was thinking of stripping the old paint, parkerizing and coating it with arma coat.....but i wanted to picture it in my mind first, before going thru a ton of work........
you just made my mind up ....ty

Originally posted in Red rifles as new post, moved it here due to interest.

Picked up a new CSA and wanted to set it up to be lighter and more compact than my CZ858 which turned out fairly heavy. One of the options I looked at was changing out the metal folder for a variety of other folders and the ones I liked were all in the $300.00 or better ball park. Given what i put into my CZ858 I want to keep costs down where I could for this carbine.

So I considered what I liked, and did not like about the standard folder and did some searching online and came up with a UTG model 47 butt pad, which gives you that extra inch or so of reach. Fits tight and I have not had any issues with it coming off.

Then I wanted a better check weld so I found a riser for an AK47 under folder which looked like it would be a close dimensional match. I really liked the look of the cheek rest/Riser made by Samson. The AK47 under folder stock was very slightly wider than the VZ58 folder so I used a spacer to take up the difference for a secure grip on the folder. You have to make sure you move the riser back far enough that the charging handle does not hit on the riser if you ever think you might fire it with the stock folded. After that it feels good and is height adjustable.

Spent about $70.00 to make the folder fit the way I wanted. the standard folder has some very good points and these items complete the functional package IMHO. Anyway had not seen this setup for the VZ58 folder and thought I pass on the info for those who might be interested.

Heres what it looked like on the AK47 under folder.

Cheek riser

StrikerSW, once again, another nice build.

I like the look of this stock setup a lot. How do you like the cheek riser? Where'd you find the best price? I'm looking for something more comfortable than putting my cheek straight on the i-beam but more robust than pipe insulation. I see the cheek riser is adjustable, does it go low enough to comfortably use the iron sights? Do you have any pics of it in the folded position?

Cheers!

Yes in the low position or even as it is now the riser lines up well using the iron sights. I too did not like the feel of the i-beam and found the plain folder a bit to short. I'll put up pic's closed on my DR's when I can take the pictures. I really like the folder with these options. The stock folder is compact and strong just lacking some length and a cheek weld, these make up for that.
