OK, the 10-22's have their own picture thread. It's time the 15-22's had one too. Hopefully some of you proud S&W M&P 15-22 owners can by coaxed into posting some pix.
I will start with a few:

First up is my original 15-22 that now has a new owner:

Next is my new-to-me MOE model with a Burris AR332 scope, NcStar laser and grip pod:

Finally a few short barrel 15-22's I grabbed off the internet:

Where can we buy a pistol barrel for the 15/22? The gun is already restricted so putting a short barrel don'e effect anything unless you cut the barrel yourself. Atleast that's what I've read.
Thanks

I have had the same thoughts. I would love to have a second pistol length upper. However S&W has discontinued the pistol. I contacted them directly and they are not interested in selling the short barrels. I think the only way is to buy a used 15-22P in the US and import it. However the cost of this would be too $$$ for me to consider. I also looked into having a new short barrel made, but hit a dead end there too.

What makes this restricted and the Mossberg tactical 22 not?

I understand that the S&W is considered a variant of the AR-15. Even though the only interchangeable parts are the pistol grip, rear stock and trigger group. One of my favourite features is the way it can be field stripped in about 3 seconds (like an AR), which is not true of the Mossberg or SR-22.

I just picked one up today but have to wait for the transfer to be approved to bring her home. Love the look of the M&P 15-22. Thought it would be a good cheap way to get into AR's. Any issues with these at all or do they run well?

Cant wait to pick it up and have some fun!

Welcome to the club Adam! Most posts I read, prior to owning my first 15-22, suggested 2 things.

1- Load the mags under tension.
In other words, use the thumb studs to ease the bullets in - don't compress the mag spring and let the bullets drop in. In my experience this is very important.

2- Use Federal 525 bulk ammo.
This seems to be the most consistent ammo. Once the rifle is broken in you can start experimenting with other brands. My current rifle arrived already broken in and feeds everything I give it with no issues. My previous rifle that I bought new, did not like Winchester white box bulk lead tip bullets at first.

Good luck with your new rifle. Post a Pic when you can.

ps: Buy lots of ammo!

Thank you! I appreciate the advice and will post a pic or two when I get it home. Another reason I chose this rifle is it will be so much cheaper to run and I can shoot it At my local range (they do not have a rifle range) so I'll be able to shoot much more for much less.

I think I'll be looking to add an AFG and maybe a MOE stock as well as some rail covers ( unsure of colour may stick to black) in the near future along with extra mags and lots and lots of ammo ;).

Thanks Tom E Gun

Cheers

It's a damned shame that blind bureaucratic stupidity has made this rifle restricted. Otherwise I'd get one for sure.

Come on, you know you want one. Even with the dumb restricted status and the really aggrevating 10rnd mags, (I have a 50 rnd drum on order - thanks to saskplcguy) it is still a great rifle. I have a DAR 10-22 as well (see pic in post #1) and if I had to give one up, it would be the 10-22.

This is NOT mine, I found this pic on the internet

Damn that short barrel model looks great! Me want

I think the barrel is stock length, it just has a fake can mounted on it.

try this:

I bought the flash hider adapter from them rather than getting my barrel threaded. Works great. Just remember to add the blue Loctite, the set screw will back out otherwise.

Ok... Time for a updated picture.

BURRIS P.E.P.R. QD Mount
Vortex 1-4X24 PST MRAD

Inspite of the sh!tty laws around it I still love this rifle!

I did mean the 6" barrel from the earlier post (pic is now gone?), but the shroud would look great on the full barrel as well

Nice pics Mr. & Mrs. Timbertec!
What make of rail covers are those on Mrs. Timbertec's rifle?....and do they come in any other colours? :)

Actually they are "Dboy's Dragon Scales" rail covers (yes people... Airsoft!) and they come in FDE, Black and Tan. A few coats of Krylon Fusion Red and she was so happy!
