Well I finally bought my first black rifle yesterday. I picked up a nice new XCR-L in .223 from the Wood Joynt in Brandon. I've got to say I am really pumped about this rifle! I decided that the 200 round breakin needed to get as soon as possible, so once I got home I promptly went to a field and had some fun :) all in all I like this gun a lot, especially how steady I can hold the gun on target for a quick follow up shot.

I think today's project will be to mount my Bushnell Elite 3200 and see if I can't get it sighted in. On that note, to XCR owners out there, how accurate can I expect to be using 55 grain FMJ at say 400 yards? And what stock would you recommend for a fairly tall guy who finds the original stock to be too short?

Get a ar stock adapter (dlask, nea, etc) with a 6 pos stock.
makes shooting the gun WAYYY more comfortable for us tall and freaky types.
It adds some weight, but worth it.

if you are shooting american eagle 55gr fmj don't get too terrible excited about having a accurate rifle on your hands. lol. better to just fire as much as fast as possible with that stuff then get some good ammo to try accuracy.

set your gas setting on four, get that bad boy dripping with lube and wear gloves. the trigger slap is a p*ss off. wear hearing protection, that stock flash hider is sh*t.

After the first 20/50/100 or so rounds, check:

Gas block screw
Barrel retention screw
Deflector screws

all for tightness.

after the first 100 or so, watch for your bolt binding ( I had an issue with it)
Ride your charging handle as you close the bolt on an empty chamber, if you bolt sticks, your deflector has loosened, and this can be VERY detrimental to accuracy.

above all, enjoy your rifle
(and don't listen to blaxsun, he loctite'd his hand to his d*ck and has a hateon ever since.. ;) ) :stirthepot2: hahaha.

I was using Hornady TAP 55gr FMJ BT's and it was more accurate than I could be.

Did you get the one with the newer stock?
The only thing I could really be absolutely critical over was that the height of the cheek weld was low on the older tube stock versions. For 89 cents I bought some styrafoam 1 inch pipe insulation and put a length over the stock and problem solved.

Well I've just taken it apart after 300 rounds, and nothing needed to be tightened. Gave it some oil and a cleaning as well. The rings I got are too short for my scope, so hoping I can get a riser to mount my scope on. Thanks for all the advice on checking bolts torques and about the stocks. I like the idea of a 6 position stock, I like having a fairly long reach.

I am getting excited to try bagging a coyote this weekend.
