Back in the early 70's my Dad purchased his first big game rifle. A Remington "package gun" 700 ADL 7mm Remington Magnum complete with a factory stainless barrel. He picked it up at the hardware store for just less than $200 and it came packaged with weaver mounts and a Bushnell Sportview 4X scope. He eventually cratered the scope and a friend traded him a Leupold Vari X II 3-9X40 for some furnace work. A few years later it was my first bedding job and dad added a decelerator himself. That went on top in Millet rings and it continued to be his only big game rifle until just a few years ago.
Then a few years ago he started hunting with a Kimber 84M 7mm-08 and eventually the 7mm was given to a family member who promptly stuck it in a soft case with a trigger lock under a bed in the basement. My dad realized his error, got it back, but not before rust had got it in a spot or two. Luckily it was just surface rust and is a cosmetic reminder that some people should't own firearms.
Fast forward to a month ago and a successful Moose draw and Dad wanted to dust off the "Ole 7 mag". So I volunteered to work up a load for it (not that he couldn't). He picked up a box of 160 gr TSX's to try, I cleaned the barrel and eventually got out today to try the first load.
I guess it's one and done. Not bad for a 40 yr old "cheap" rifle.
