Hey Padawan,

I see you live in Ontario, if you are close to Ham/GTA, you are welcome to meet up at Silverdale to try shooting some of my non-1911 .45's.

I own several H&K's in .45. I owned a HK45 for about a year and sold it!!!

I have 1911's, H&K's, Sig's and Glocks, all of these more or less have a angular, boxed shaped grips. Well, at least to me! I have medium sized hands and I have no problem in holding any of these guns, single stack or double.

The HK45 is a very nice gun to shoot, when I held the gun in the store, it felt great, like your hand blended into the grip, but when shooting the gun, I didn't care for the roundish, sculpted grip, although the recoil is lighter than some other .45's, I found the gun moved slightly after each shot.
I don't find this happening when I shoot my other pistols which have more angular, box shaped grips.
However, I think it would fit smaller hands better.

I have a H&K USP, I find this gun is a pleasure to shoot. The recoil in this gun is fairly tame. I found little difference between the recoil between the HK45 and the USP.

My favourite H&K, and favourite .45 is my Mark 23. A large gun................YES, but it weighs the same as a 1911. Accurate as *ell and I can shoot much tighter groups with this gun than any of my others. The recoil is similar to my P226 in 9mm!

I also have a Sig P220, I was one of the lucky guys to pick up one of the German made Sigs from Arma-coat. I recently sold an older West German P220, both guns are accurate, compact and easy to shoot. Noted as being one of the best 'service' pistols made.

The recoil from a P220 is a bit more than the above H&K's, but not by much.

The H&K USP and Sig P220 would get my vote.

PM me if you are interested in trying any of these out before you purchase.

Cheers.

That's my favorite as well. I like my 1911 just fine, but I prefer the Sig. I have the Equinox version, great pistol, very accurate.

I found a new one. Comes with 1 mag only i think. Waiting for a reply.

German or USA made? Can find the US one easy... my German 220 came with (2) 7rd mags. 8rd US mags are available in the US mostly. Can't seem to find many in Canada.

If you are in S.Ontario you can try mine if you are in Windsor. My range buddy keeps asking if I want to sell it-- NO.

I really appreciate the offer. I've got it down to 2.

1) HK45

2) Sig P220 German made.

And here i thought i was done for the year.:bangHead:

I wouldn't get too hung up on a German SIG padawan. Go over to the SIG forum, they are some pretty robust discussions about German vs American. I've had my American SIG for a couple of years now and NEVER had any sort of issue (other than shooting off 400+ rounds at a time gets a little expensive! lol) The gun is amazing!

I agree. Performance wise there should be little...if any difference. However, the German seems to command a higher price on the EE;)

OK between the two:

The sig should be cheaper. Enough to buy 1000 rds of 45ACP from Canada ammo?
The sig should also have mags readily available and cheaper.

Maintainance edge may be slightly ahead on the HK as I don't think one actually has to clean them AND the sig with an aluminum frame will require propper lubrication (not hard to do).

The only thing next is to try one out for size.

I use Frog Lube.....good enough for the Sig?

Hey guys.

I'm wondering what your though's are on the best non-1911 .45 pistol.

I'm asking about the Total Package (i.e) Reliability, ease of cleaning, field stripping, parts and mag avail, aftermarket support, warranty support.

If other....which one?

Your Feedback is appreciated.

I bought my G21 gen4 for the exact same reasons you stated and have not been dissapointed. I haven't required aftermarket or warranty support..so don't know.
BTW...you forgot "at a price that won't break the bank or get the attention of the wife or GF.."

X2,

CZ97B all the way.

Only time I've ever disagreed with Bfiles, but I hated my CZ97b... Sig 220 has better balance and control (for me) than the CZ97 I had. It's now sold and my 220 is on my "not 4 sale" list.

Of course, everything is a personal decision, but the OP can't go wrong buying a Sig 220 or HK45. HK45 will be your softest shooting 45 on the market. Fantastic "recoil reduction system".

Part of me wants to buy the HK45.....I'm just finding it REALLY hard to drop 1399.00 plus tax for a pistol that i may or may not have any support for. What if i need a part. How long could my new baby be down while i wait...... a month, 6 months, a year?? Does anyone know?

I also hear the Canadian Distributer for HK in Canada is a real treat to deal with as well.

Yes, yes! Give in to the dark side! :)

Seriously, though--you're unlikely to need any spare parts for any well-made pistol. I've been shooting for almost 30 years and have owned a metric ####-ton of handguns and have never needed any repairs (knock wood!). I would not let that factor into your decision. Plus, everyone knows the classic SIG is a P226 9mm <ducks>.

Ah Master, your wisdom knows no bounds :D

I know.....i've much to learn.:p

That Sig 220 SAO looks awesome.
I've had a few of the .45s on the list and fired all but the HK 45.
I voted for the USP, Its a very nice gun, but my second choice would be a Sig 220. I really need to get my hands on one of these HK45's to give it a test run.
