Quality of Remington rifles?

From someone who works retail (in the gun department) Remingtons are hit and miss. The chances of you getting a good one(unless you get a 597) are way better than getting a bad one. That being said we send more Marlins and Remingtons out for repair than any other brand. Mossberg is a close second. Just an observation. I don't personally own any, but have several buddies with 700's. They love them, I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I like the old military stuff, but that is my preference. IMHO one of these old birds (handloading and practice) can shoot every bit as good as a new Remington.

Its funny Dave, last year when all this "Remington Under Fire" bull#### was going on and no-nothings with 700's were shaking in their boots about killing their children with them, I put an offer up...a very reasonable one.

I would pay 400$ for any blued Model 700. And 500$ for any Stainless 700 with the WALKER DEATH TRIGGERS, so people could sleep safely at night.

I didnt get one PM from these yum-yums trying to hawk their death trickers....

Oh believe me, I'm aware. Locally after that aired guys were trying to sell them left right and center, but they still wanted $700 for 20 year old blued 700's.....

why?

there are dozens of other brand names, why anyone still want to buy a Remington with death trigger?

if you genuinely care about your kids, your friends, don't touch Remington. Remington killed many kids by design(death trigger design).

You, sir are a real piece of work.

Facts, not fantasy is what we like to see on here.

Death trigger, indeed.
Killed many kids by design....what a crock!!

You have obviously been sucked in by the media BS, and are now
subscribing to that as gospel.

Regardless of rifle manufacturer design, safe gun handling saves lives, prevents injuries.

Well, I have 3 Remington 700's right now and 1 Tikka T3 hunter
Nothing wrong with any of them. The Tikka shoots great (.308) and is lighter than the 700 for sure
The 2 Win.270's shoot great. One BDL one MTN rifle - Both are older models. As in 20 years old
The one that had an issue - a Brand new CDL .257 wby (extractor issue) was repaired free of charge by Wortner gun works and now it works great.

Personally I would buy any older (or new) Model 700.
They work fine and shoot great.

You appear to be so stupid you shouldn't be allowed to own firearms.

Possibly you are just cranking us.

Seriously though, if you really believe what you stated, you should be kept in a rubber room.

Auto shops prefer worst built cars than better quality ones, because they get more business from bad vehicles. bad quality Remington certainly would bring more business to gun technician, so I understand why you are so mad at me.

Your problem is you don't understand...

Your statement about Remington is not factual at all and I am not mad at you...

Over 45 years I have built many custom rifles on Remington actions and I had to repair very few faulty Remingtons...

Please tell all of us how experienced you are with firearms and what exactly made you to form your opinion of Remington 700's, the strongest, safest 2 locking lug rifle ever made...

we see a jump here. Remington models include more than model 700. when model 710,770 and its cousin Marlinton are built in such a way that it is a hit or miss to get a quality one from them, that is a problem. that is a joke. if you can not pruduce consistent quality from one model,it means there's no quality control. it means no quality.

i guess if i own a remington 700 i should only fire it in sandbags with a long string in order to save my life. if people would keep there finger off the trigger there would be a lot less accidental discharges. i think rems have one of the best triggers on a production rifle.

I sure am lucky, more than 20K rounds through various Rem 700's and I'm still alive and no mysterious accidental discharges. Because Remington 700 triggers are adjustable people with no knowledge or skill have messed with them creating a dangerous situation usually by adjusting the sear engagement too fine. As for quality I had a crappy Ruger 77 but I don't believe they are poor rifles but like anything mechanical lemons can leave a factory.

elker: YOU are the guy that is jumping around here!!
This discussion was about a fellow buying a 700, not a 710 or 770 or a Marlin.
Those rifles are irrelevant at this time.

You immediately chose to bring up a phoney, so-called problem with the 700 trigger, that in fact no one has been able to duplicate at will.

You obviously know less than nothing about this, over and above what you have heard/seen of the media.

There is a very nice phrase out there that suits you well:
"Better to remain silent and thought a fool,
Than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"

I have owned at least 100 model 700 rifles in my lifetime.

They are as safe as any others out there.

Eagleye.

the op asked about model 700 quality, I agree. but the topic of this thread is "quality of Remington rifles". so it is legitimate to include those 710,770 etc in discussion.

I don't doubt your knowledge, actually I did like reading your posts. but why are you so protective to Remington. if a company trashes its products, this company need to be trashed.

Remington should not be an exception
