Springfield Armory Sept 1942 M1- '69 Letterkenny rebuild (believed to be unfired since rebuild) with '53 barrel and Winchester trigger housing

Norinco M305 receiver and trigger group
-cartouched USGI walnut stock from Randy at Treeline with vented handguard
-LRB bolt (from Armtac)
-RWB op rod (thanks to 45acpking for the fitting instructions)
-'61 Winchester barrel (installed with Hungry's help:D)
-USGI gas system with Sadlak Ti piston
-Tubb silicon spring and Sadlak op rod guide
-USGI flash hider and front sight
-Beretta rear sight

I'm currently putting together a little sister for my M1 also! I've got a Krieger heavy barrel and all kinds of high end parts on the way, but no way would I get into an aftermarket bolt or op rod. I figure once the bolt lugs have been lapped, I'll get similar results at a smaller cost (thing is already going to put me back $3k before optics :eek:)


How did you fit the op rod anyway? Any removing of material? I've seen Dlask's deal and considered it...

This started as a stripped receiver so I had the option to build it up with the aftermarket parts. The op rod fitting is fairly straight forward (and I'm no expert) it just requires patience as Thomas says. A small file and grease based lapping compound is all you need. The material has to come off from the bearing surface above the tab...take a little off, check, repeat.

I wish I knew! Haven't had a chance to shoot yet because of school.

For all those afraid to "do it yerself" , this thread should be a lesson ;)
With the resources here and the many helpful folks willing to lend a hand, building up a fine rifle ain't so daunting ;)
