How is the XCR?

I have an SKS but my local shops were all out of 7.62x39 ammo. Canada Ammo has crates for sale, but 1200 rounds seemed like a lot. Then it occurred to me, I could just buy more rifles of the same calibre ...

So I'm looking at guns of that calibre and I saw the XCR. Can anyone give me their opinion on that rifle, or the pistol version? I would love to hear both the good and the bad.

Also, how does that gun compare to the ACR, which sadly doesn't come in 7.62 but is still cool anyways. If you were presented with the option, which would you choose?

The XCR works just fine. Despite what some people think, (cough, Blaxsun, cough) the XCR is not unreliable, nor does it shatter to pieces without locktite. It's front-heavy and not particularly accurate, but the ergos are amazing and it takes tons of aftermarket AR parts. The ACR does not yet have a 7.62 kit, there are no plans to bring that caliber in so if you like shooting only 7.62x39 don't even bother with it. I own both rifles and I love them for what they do.

If you really, really want, you can ask a few gunsmiths like Herron Arms as they make a bolt for 7.62 for the ACR but since you have to cannibalize a stock barrel's gas tube for it and pay for a custom barrel, that's probably not cost effective if you're happy with your SKS.

If Bushmaster/Remington ever gets their acr togerther and releases a NR ACR barrel and caliber conversion kits/barrels, the XCR is in trouble.

When I was in the US I went to a bunch of different gun shops to try to handle both, but no luck. While I am looking at .223 / 5.56 a copmarisson would have been nice. I've decided to try the XCR, one of the main reasons is the ability to choose your own pistol grip. The other, with the 500-1000$ price diffence, you can use the money you saved to put on glass, an Aimpoint or an Eotech.

When I get an XCR I will likely post my comments about it.

They said the same thing about Keltec, Benellie and JR rifles, :jerkit: yet Wolverine still manages to sell out every shipment they bring into Canada. :p

both XCR rifle and pistol just plain works for me, whether is a 200 round day or 600 rounds in 2 hours during the club open house, they just keep on ticking,
easy to strip down and clean, shooting corrosive is no more work to clean than regular ammo. learn out to hand torque the screws and you will never have to use Loctite.

A lot? I think you should just concentrate on shooting your SKS more. 1200 rounds is when I start to feel like I don't have enough ammo left. :D

But seriously, they're not the worst things in the world, they're just way overpriced for what they are, IMO.

I've had an XCR in .223 for about a year and love it. Never a malfunction and accuracy varies from acceptable to very good depending on the ammo (mine has a real affinity for 75gr. AMax's). Admittedly, I've never run it very hard but after about 400-500 rounds I've had zero issues. Not really a torture test, but a good indicator that its not a POS. I'd love one in 7.62x39.

The XCR is a good rifle in my opinion. I agree its front heavy because of the 18.6 barrel not restricted. The pistol version on the other hand is better on handling not so heavy on the front end but is restricted. If you use a bipod on the XCR its not that bad shooting at 100yards with 1" groupings. Also I love the charging of the xcr quite unique
givin all the AR I've ever owned and used.

Love mine too. For me, non-restricted is a huge deal. at $1000 more, I get 10 time the use over an AR... I have the 5.56 with a 6.8SPC conv kit which makes it great for Coyotes & even deer.

XCR-L, Eotech... sounds like mine...

I have a 762 39 model. Its a little heavy but very solid. I had a few shells not chamber fully when it was new(this christmas) but none since. I don't like the brake as the recoil of that cartridge for me is minimal and the noise is excessive with it on. I've since ordered a replacement for it so I can hunt with it easier. I like the trigger and overall how it comes apart for cleaning. I've not had anything come loose. I've put about 800 rounds down it. I also like the 10 round mag option for it. I would definately buy one again.

Love my XCR. Have the 7.62x39 version, looking to get the .223 conversion kit for it.

So far round count would be 2500+ (mostly surplus ammo) with zero fail to feed, fire, ejects. Put a Bushnell 3200 elite scope on it and can shoot 1.5"-2" groups (5 shots) at 100 yrds when I slow down and take my time. Other times it's fun to go through 10 rounds quickly.

I have the 2nd gen version and have not had anything rattle loose on me, so no locktite... yet, and if I need it, still doesn't bother me. The 3rd gen's have the FAST stock on them which look good and would be nice to try one before buying to add to mine.

Gun was a little pricey, but I look at guns and say to myself, what is the ammo cost compared to the next rifle.

Would definately buy another if I had to.

My XCR-L has been excellent. I've had two failures to go fully into battery, but these were with light handloads, newish LAR 10 round mags and gas setting 1 with under 500 rounds through the rifle. A light smack on the side of the rifle and it clicked right in. On gas setting 2 I've never had a malfunction.

I did manage to break a firing pin after about 3000 rounds, but Wolverine had a replacement on my doorstep in under 72 hours. Overall it has been a great rifle, with great support through Wovlerine.

Thanks guys! This is my first time with rifles so I'm not really sure what to look for or what I like. I liked that the XCR used the 7.62 for convenience reasons, but if the ACR is a much better rifle I don't mind spending the extra $500 or so. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a place that has them in stock so I can see how it feels.
