Anyone out there using the recoil pads such as sold by Westrifle that replaces the stock steel plate on the MN's? If so how are you finding that it's working out at soaking up the recoil?

15 rounds is pretty much all my poor arm can stand when shooting with nothing more than a shirt for a recoil pad. So I'm looking at giving myself something to soften the blow.

I recently bought a couple off of Fleabay ...they were about $21 including shipping .

Here is another one for sale

I've got one of those replace the steel butt plate recoil pads.
You'd better have long arms as it increases the LOP by just that amount.
As far as function I can't say as my M-39 has languished in the safe this year.

I'm also curious about these as I seem to remember reading somewhere that the rubber used to make them was pretty hard, and so they didn't really do much good.

I would love to hear some experiances though as I'm also on the fence about getting one.

The two butt pads I picked up are fairly soft....I never fired them with just the steel butt plate so cant tell you how much of a difference they make. I wanted a longer LOP anyhow .

I use a slip on recoil pad. Can be had at Wholesale and Cabela's alittle under $20. Soft rubber and does a good job of taming it down. I think they are Uncle Mike's, but there are several other slip on pads available as well. I've also seen them at Canadian Tire.

Jees almighty suck it up princess!!My wife shoots the M-44 in a T-shirt. I regularly shoot 200 rounds on a range trip. It's not that bad.

Yeah, but it's proven women have a higher pain tolerance than men. eg; childbirth! But seriously, they do have a bit of a thump, even my SVT will sit me up a bit.

I find the recoil pad causes it to be too front heavy for a rifle that is already long and front heavy. Further to this, I don't think the Mosin or the M44s kick that hard. I'm not a large person but can shoot these all day long in a t-shirt, both surplus and 200gr soft points.

If you're sore from shooting and getting occasional bruising, you're going to want to make sure the butt is seated securely in the 'pocket' of your shoulder. No recoil pad is going to make up for poor shouldering technique.

I was using one from past, it was pretty good but very thick ~ I use it mostly to rest my elbow on now... I find taking breaks keeps the pain from building up. If I were to go shopping for a pad again, I would look for something thin, hard and wide [a nice thick piece of hard leather] - spread the pressure around instead of trying to absorb it...
