Just a comment on this thread...
As of this weekend, I've shot 5 IPSC Classic matches with my STI 1911 in 9mm.
This weekend was the first time my gun ran without a hitch.
1911s are not Glocks (or Shadows come that)... While they are exceptionally accurate pistols, they are not without "issues". Feed reliability seems to be a common concern (bullet OAL, magazine type, lubrication, ramp polishing, etc.).
Given the variation in 1911s, there is no "one size fits all" solution to reliability problems. (And the problems seem be different between guns.) Experimentation seems to be the only way to solve the problems.
Coming to CGN is a good place to get advice, but there needs to be some context as it applies to 1911s - what works for someone else may not work for you. This is a starting point for advice - the outcome will be up to you.
