Thee IDPA box is a bit smaller than the IPSC box ....

Not true. The relevant dimension is 6" for the IDPA box (which is the same for the USPSA box) which converts to 152.4mm. The corresponding IPSC box dimension is 150mm.

I just got 3 wilson ETM .45acp mags, and 2 Chip Mccormack 8rd mags. I believe the sti I am getting comes with 1 ACT mag. I am not sure I like the CM follower....are the tripp a metal follower or plastic?

Tripps use a metal follower.

polymer with metal on the bottom, my mags came with the all metal flex follower also. They said that was the only way to get a reloadable 10 rounds
