CZ Shadow vs Tanfoglio Stock III for IPSC production

Np buddy, if you do get a Stock 3 (I like the design more than the Stock 2, as well as the price). PM me and i'll tell you what you need to know to get the trigger better. Just like my old Shadow if you want reliability you'll only be running Federal Primers in the future.

I have decided on the Stock III. I will shoot you a pm after I get it. Should have it by Friday as I heard restricted transfers are only taking a day or two.

Generally speaking:
Heavier bullets = softer recoil impulse and slower return.
Lighter bullets = snappier recoil impulse and faster return.

Note: the lightest .40 bullet is still going to be heavier than the heaviest 9mm bullet. That in mind, you will find most will opt for 9mm.
I like the ergonomics of the Tanfo because of the checkering, beavertail, safeties and adjustable sights but the CZ's have better triggers, even after smithing work.

Thanks! I have decided on the 9mm. I really appreciate the 1911 clinic you gave me at the Silverdale match last Sunday! I have met a lot of good shooters and guys who know guns over the years. You definitely top that list!!!

Congrats on the purchase. I'm sure you'll love the gun. Now just be sure not to crush the frame flat with those titanic forearms of yours!

While either choice of gun is a good one, Tanfoglio magazines are the only way to fly.

I'm confussed as why everbody has the notion that Tanfoglio mags are the best? I have my original 8 cz mags from 2006 and have never once had a problem with them. They look as good as the day I bought them, come apart easily, are made of a good steel and the lips have never needed to be adjusted? Am I missing something?

congrats on the purchase. You may like the wood grips,...or go with the OEM aluminum grips,..the Eric grips...or the Henning grips. I have had all. My hands are too small for the wood,...Henning grips are good stuff, but with his shipping to Canada policy they are $$. I have a new set of Eric grips...which to me feel like the thicker CZ grips. The quality of the Eric grips is awesome. That being said, I think I will have a hard time going to anything else than the factory aluminum. I have them on my production, standard, and Open guns.

Trigger can be helped with the different hammer springs. I think all new stock2-3's come with a 15lb hammer spring, as I have 16 lbs from older guns that are shorter and much heavier. I think the factory lists two other springs which would be similiar to the 14lb and 13lb. Polish the FPB to make sure it clears the firing pin, and that it moves very smoothly up and down in the slide. Things that make the DA smoother is a smooth trigger plunger, trigger bar at the rear, and bottom of the sear cage where the trigger bar rides under...as well as a smooth disconnector. The tanfoglio mags are the best. I have had CZ and tanfoglio mags...for me I have never had a tanfoglio mag nose dive.(I can not say that about the cz mags I had) I feel the tanfoglio mags are smoother. The spring is approx. 5% stronger than 10rd CZ mags. THe hard chrome mags are easier to find when you drop them in the grass..etc. They are now blocked better..they feed 10rds with a slight give at the top so when you seat a mag you don't run into a mag that fails to seat. (no need to "double tap" the mag into the gun)... I have many, many thousands of rounds thru my mags...they all work great....great.

What kind of shooting do you do? From my experience doing IPSC and IDPA indoors the CZ mags dropped on the concrete floor have had issues on different occasions. They top shooters I know say you can drop the Tanfoglio mags on the concrete harder and more times than the CZs.

Thanks! I love the feel for now but may change the grips in the future like I do with most my other guns. Part of the fun is not looking for the "best gun" as it's been proven that the biggest matches can be won with a Glock 17 over the Shadows and Tanfoglios. The real fun is just having and shooting different guns and making them feel perfect to you. :) Restricted transfers are going quick lately so I should be picking it up soon.

I doubt it, I got a ghost with mine, only thing is for IPSC there's the 2" away from waist rule so you might have to cant the pistol closer to you.

Tried the Stock III I bought in a Bladetech CZ Shadow holster today at the gun store. It stops a little short as the slide is longer than the Shadow but the trigger was covered and I could turn it upside down and shake it a bit without the gun falling out. It was the better Bladetech for $67 not the cheap one that comes in the package deal with the mag pouches. If I really wanted to I could just open the closed bottom of the holster a bit and it would go all the way in.

My CZ mags are easily the worst magazines I own, and are the second most expensive (2nd to my Accuracy International mags). They have needed feed lips adjusted on more than one occasion, they get surface rust, and the perceived strength of the springs has reduced over their life.

I would not re-buy them.

How much did you pay for the gun and you arn't going to get a holser that is made for the gun? I got a Blade Tech for my Model "L" so you shouldn't have a problem ordering one from Blade Tech Just phone them. Check with Sean as I think the Model "L" has the same frame dimensions as your gun. Chris sprng is months away.

I never stop shooting my friend. I set up the IPSC stages at my indoor IPSC league year round. I tried finding a holster that wasn't a $150 - $200 race type and couldn't. Don't worry I will eventually find one I am sure but I want to shoot this baby tonight as it's IPSC night. Only problem is will my transfer clear? They said it's been taking one to two days lately.

Regardless, thanks for your concern Bob. ;)

Full tube Tanfo mags are better than the lame 10 rounders that CZ ships the gun with. Tanfo finally got their heads together and stopped laser cutting the entire body of the mag except the dimple area, that change meant the mags last a lot longer (I had mags break the first time I used them cut the old way). However, if you can souce full body, pinned Shadow mags for a CZ they are a better option than the Tanfo mags, as the baseplate helps act as a stop for the mag when inserting, so you can't over insert the mag like you would with a Tanfo mag in the CZ.
Also if you run Tanfo mags in a CZ you can run Henning baseplates on them, which are a massive improvement over the Tanfo ones. You can't really run them if you use Tanfo mags in a Tanfo

Transfer has cleared! I will be using the Stock III for IPSC tonight after a quick Gunzilla treatment. Stock black front blade sight, hmmmmm. I will see how that goes. lol Anybody still use blacked out rear and black front blade for IPSC anymore?? I know it is still very good for long shots but black rear and fiber front seems to be the norm now especially for quicker acquisition.

blue "T" mags from IMI or Bul storm mags are identical. I have only seem hard chromed tanfo mags from Tanfo. SO....I actually did buy some Bul storm mags from Marstar; and put a Henning basepad on it.

Red fiber all the way! ####ty that it's an extra $50 but as a friend once told me if you worry about $ your in the wrong game. I use the full cap black Tangfo mags with modded CZ rubber basepads. I put grip tape on the bottom of the mags too. I got the Eric G Black grips on it, a little cheaper than the Henning or Tangfo ones and they feel/look way better. I remember you have meathooks so thinner grips are probably not needed so you save some $.

Shot it tonight for 4 stages and 100 rounds. Hate the trigger and the black front sight, love everything else. I will get a legal trigger job and a fiber front sight for sure.
