If you were looking for your first revolver, what would be:

A) your first choice, price is no issue, gotta have make & cal combo?
B) your choice for a good value at an affordable price?

Hard to beat a first gen Colt SAA in any caliber, already had one in 38 special.

Next up would be a S&W 627 Performance Center model.....mmmmmmmm

Just one?

S&W 629 in .44 Magnum.

Feed it mostly .44 Special in home made handloads for range use. (a real pussycat in recoil and muzzleblast)

Occassional use in Magnum loads. Can be gunsmithed in Canada, nice trigger out of box.

Wheel guns are like children, you can't just pick one.
The favorites of my herd: Colt SAA in 45 colt, S&W 686, '61 Army, Colt New Frontier.....

If you are just getting into revolvers, I would suggest a S&W 686, first. Ruger GP100, second. .357mag is a great place to start.

Well fellers, just for starters, I think the Ruger Blackhawk and Super Black Hawk series is superior in every way, to a first generation Colt SAA.
So much was said about S&W, without mentioning the various ownership status, accompanied by a very wide range of quality in them, over the years. S&W made great guns until a bit after the Model 29, 44 magnums came out with 6.5 inch barrels.
Then, some ownership changes, different places of manufacture and a decided change in quality. At least some of the 29s, some of those with six inch barrels, were very close to junk. Don't try to explain them to me, I have owned the K22, the 357 before it had a model number and just had "357 MAGNUM," rolled onto it and a good 6.5 inch 44.
Then I had the cheap built S&W 44 magnum with the 6 inch barrel. It had the poorest, cheapest made innards in it of any revolver I have ever seen. It made the working parts of an Iver Johnston look splendid!
While the old S&W revolvers looked, shot and were built great, I really think the best all around revolver I ever had was a 357 Rugrer Security Six.

a) A full house Ron Power Grandmaster bowling pin gun, probably based on a Model 29 for that sweet trigger.

b) Just got this one, an S&W Model 66 in .357 mag. If you don't like used guns, then a 686 or Ruger GP100.

A) S&W 460V Mag
One of the biggest bangs on the block. Eats 45 Colt, 454 Casull and 460 Mag. :dancingbanana:

B) Dan Wesson 44 Mag
It's got the trigger of a S&W, with the toughness of a Ruger. Built like a tank. Eats full power loads all day long.
