So I have a hard time spending money on crow decoys. So I have made flat cardboard cutouts, sock crows and the likee with varying sucsess over the years. But just the other day I was walking through the dollarama and saw full body crows for $2 a piece. They have a retractable hook in there back and positional feet with a hole for a spike or tent peg. And I have had great sucsess with these in the back yard so Hunting should be great. I love halloween decore' :). Thought those on a budget might appericiate this. Happy hunting!

I saw them the other day too while shopping with the GF, I picked up 6 and we are using the flocking kit I have for my Canada Goose decoys to flock them up and make them really pop!! Cant wait to get out with them this spring and fire up the e-caller!!

I haven't hunted crows yet (lots around, just too lazy). I always thought if I plopped a McDonalds happy meal in the middle of the field next to my house, then backed off 200 yards opposite the natural berm, and waited... but haven't tried. Might be a good use for a skinned coyote, too... One prey becomes bait for another...

Look in the dollar store, you can usually pick them up for a dollar or two around halloween, use a flocking kit if you would like or not. El cheapo's

I picked up 18 of them . Bought 12 last year at a dollarama (all they had) and the other 6 this year.
They are almost identical to the crow decoys sold at some sporting stores for a lot more $.
I like that you can either have them stand or hang in a tree.

People ate them in the depression era "30's" as it was all about survival.
Now they are good sporting fun to reduce some of these Shyte hawks that tear your garbage apart.

I like shooting them since they are bullies on other birds that are beneficial. They also damage apple crops, and a really annoying reason is they think they are so smart, just begging for a deaducation. Fruit laden apple trees or that pesky squirrel (now dead) make excellent crow decoys: Ambushing from close cover with shotgun is effective, but sniping them from cover a couple hundred yards away is particularly satisfying. Annoying crow behaviour is typical (or Murphy's Law?) when a murder of them cawing as dawn breaks on the morning you planned to sleep in: If I can't sleep in, I might as well be ambushing.

A couple years ago, I noticed unusual behaviour: Several crows flocked in a tree behind the house, presumably to engorge on the rodent flesh abandoned by the dog. Shooting out the window, scattered all but one bird, which predictably fell. An hour later, several crows in the same tree rioting: Shotgun out the window again to scatter all but one. For part of that day, every hour the process repeated, until eventually it seems they realized they were losing the war of attrition and gave up. Crows may be "smart", but they are not brilliant.

Take advantage of the crows bully (maybe survivor in this case) mentality: They usually gang up on Hawks or other predatory birds. A simple, cheap hawk or owl decoy might work.

The best decoy for crow hunting is an owl. Crows hate owls and try to chase them away in flocks. We used an owl decoy last year with good success.

At the dollar store? Awesome! Anyone want to post a pic, I'm curious & might end up driving to all the dollar stores looking for them...

Cheers
Jay

I put out an owl decoy and keep throwing the dead crows in front of it. I usually kill over a 1000 a year. Last year I made only 492 kills. It just didn't stay cold enough long enough. Find a flyway and don't over shoot it. Don't hunt on quiet windless days. The coyotes and hawks clean them all up. Then I shoot the coyotes

Damn....if you're ever looking for company... :)

Hunt anywhere around chatham kent. Last years figures were 350 000 birds so they say. When my flyway kicks up I easily have several thousand a night come in. They damage building and trees and cars there's so many in the winter

Best crow decoy is one place high in a very viable location. One well place decoy is far more effective than a dozen placed on the ground or low in the branches. Location and calling is everything with crows. I picked up 6 Boondocker flocked crow deeks from the states a few years ago. IMO the best crow decoy out there right now.

New hunter, was going for squirrels and bunnies here, too many fing crows all the time.
instead of actually shooting I stood there dazed, and took video at the sight of all them crows.

Lesson learned from the experience: when you find a wounded animal you shot,
It's prolly not a good idea to shoot it with a shotgun from 4 feet away,
Vaporized.
