I've been missing for awhile and I'd like to ask the CGN crowd for info on any developments regarding 10/22 high cap mags. I've recently bought some Butler Creek 25 rounders. I found them to be incredibly finicky and unreliable compared to the ones I used to buy some time ago. Either I'm horribly unlucky, or they aren't what they used to be. I went to Brownells and noticed that they're selling TI 25 steel lipped polymers for $32!!! WOW!!! I was about to buy a few until I read the new rules Barry came up with. Apparently, USA can't export any high cap mags unless it's to law enforcement or military! %@$%#$&@%! I almost ripped my hair out when I read that, incredible. Is there anybody selling any polymer TI 25 steel-lip mags in Canada that doesn't charge double to triple the price of what they're actually worth? It seems that the 10/22 high cap mag situation is worse than before I left. After Ruger released their awesome factory 25 rounder that is dirt cheap, durable, reliable, and takes apart for cleaning, it looks like they've effectively killed all the 10/22 high cap mag competition out there. It's really such a shame those fantastic, short sighted, people at Ruger marketed this magazine for use in their pistol. Thanks guys! I just hope those GSG 110 round drums are worth all the hype. Can anybody recommend anything out there that's reliable and available to us Canadians?

I have had the same results with the butler creek, they just don't seem to cycle well for me. I just got one of the newer gen promag 25 rounders to try, but I haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet, but i have heard that the newer gen ones are supposed to be quite a bit more reliable then the older ones.

I hope they work out for you "fans" (edit: "dand" my Android thinks it knows better) as this would give is more options. Please let us know how they work out for you. I think the value in the 10/22 platform for the Canadian market is dying. Sure there's lots of aftermarket parts, but if you're limited to 10 rounds, then the Marlin 795 is a much better value when it's half the price of a 10/22 and is more accurate. Don't hate me 10/22 fanboys. I'm just saying it like it is, and I own both. Did someone come out with a reliable high cap mag for the 795 yet?

Are the butler creek mags you are using "Steel Lips"?

If not that is your problem right there!

I have tried everything else(except these new Promags) and they all sucked compared to the Butler Crreek Steel Lips, especially those damn Tactical Innovations garbage. Spent more time dicking around with the adjustment screws than I did shooting. Just when I thought they were set up, boom, next time out it was failures to feed again, and back to dicking with adjustments. Sold that crap, and never looked back!

Butler Creek Steel Lips is all I would even consider using other than the factory mags.

Yep!

Looks like they advertise them as working for the Charger, as mentioned above.

Might not be long before the Promags are prohibited.

Just another reason to stick to my Butler Creek Steel Lips.

I'm sorry to hear about your trouble with the TI 25 mags mlehto. Reading that actually surprised me, they seem to be regarded as the best high cap magazine you can buy for a 10/22 besides the Ruger BX-25. I've never owned any, so I'm just going off the many positive reviews that are out there for them. I always wondered about the adjustment screws, and if they sit tight in the threaded holes after adjustment. Maybe they go screwy on you because the adjustment screws move after some time? Maybe some loc-tite would help. All my 4 BC mags have steel lips on them. The first two worked flawlessly right off the bat. To be honest, I've only put a few hundred through these newer ones. I'm hoping a few hundred more and some graphite lube like Remington's dry lube will improve their function. It's weird though because the 2 older ones were perfect from the start. It's like night and day between the 2 sets.

Of the 10 BC Steel Lips I have owned 2 have given me issues, but not related to the design. The issue was with the spring/follower binding at a certain point in the mag causing the bolt to not pick up the next round as there was no spring pressure pushing the next round up.

What I did to fix the problem was use a wire coat hanger, and some oil to work the mag follower up and down inside the mag a whole bunch of times wearing away any burs and such that may have been causing the binding.

Hope that helps.

And I am not the first to have such issues with the TI mags. I bought them because of the reviews here, not because of issues with the steel lips, and after several range trips of headaches, I had no reason to keep them as I had the BC Steel Lips that worked so well in the first place.

The five Steel Lips magazines I have for my 10/22 have never given me any problems. I haven't tried the Hot Lips ones, but they have a poor reputation.
