Yup, the No1Mk3 (no star) rear sight had windage-adjustment, that's one thing that went away when the "*" conversion came into effect.
Before you try to adjust the windage, look under the sight where the windage part joins the body. Sometimes there is a tiny pin locking the two parts together.
The owner should avoid a D&T job like the plague!
The only mount commonly available for the SMLE these days is the Weaver TO-1. It is NOT satisfactory at all.
S&K makes a no-gunsmithing mount which is very solid and does away with drilling holes. It has a LOT of things going for it, among which are the fact that you can move your scope from one rifle to a different one without having to have two types of rings. Takes about half an hour to install, cost is about the same as a D&T job but the results are much better.
I would really hate to see another early rifle D&T'd; there are not many unmolested ones left.
I just completed a rebuild of a No1 Mk III that was sporterized and within minutes of a D&T for a scope!! I begged the guy to let me do it for him and he loves me now!!
