How about that the AR was originally designed for .308? My next rifle is going to be a .308 AR.
I've come to realize that for me, choosing a NR .308 black rifle means choosing a rifle that is inferior to the AR when I only shoot at a range anyways. Depends on where you shoot I guess, but I'm leaning hard towards the LMT LM8, when the time comes.
First off the AR308 rifles are built heavier and tend to be the flagship rifles of the respective companies. So you tend to get an overall better product with their 308 offering over the 223 ones.
Second of all. They shoot .5 moa with match ammo. Unlike the 223 a bit of wind isn't going to open those groups up nearly as much. Ammo is easy to get and so is reloading.
One other factor, shooting the 308 version is just different. You can't explain it you have to shoot it. The 308 in the AR really does feel right. Its a cool rifle to shoot.
Of the rifles I own my 308ARs are my favourites.
The OP mentions 3K as the amount. I'm going to say this is in reference to the LMT MWS. That would be with the CL barrel. The rifle will really shine with the SS barrel. All of my 308AR rifles have SS barrels on them, including the LMT MWS. It's a shame to not have one on a rifle capable of shooting with a tactical bolt action rifle.
Bring that STG44 replica of yours and I'm sure we can work out a test before you decide on which 308AR to buy. The LMT for example. The handguards on the regular one are thinner than many as is. I'm not so sure I would go with the LM8.
For the simple fact that it can easily be converted to different caliber, the Desert Tactical Arms SRS would be my first choice as well.
every time someone buys one. Think of it as a really, really cheap DSR1. That's black, evil and scary looking.![]()
Only problem is that he said $3000 and my DTA SRS in 338Lapua was over $7000 plus glass. A little beyond what he was looking to spend.
Sweet baby batman! You mean to say the price shot up by $4,000 from the base model ($3,000)?!!

Sweet looking rig no matter what.

The price on DTA website is for the chassis only. You still need to pick and pay for a caliber kit.
Plus just like all other firearms we pay more in Canada than the US does for the same gun.
The $7000 was also for the full deployment kit which includes the bag/shooting mat, 2 mags, cleaning kit including a nice one piece rod, sling, bipod and scope mount, and probably some other stuff I can't remember.
Plus I shot a 0.72" 3 shot group at 300yds with factory hornady 250gr ammo the first day out with it off the bench. That alone makes it worth the money.![]()

Look at that....someone brought a couple of Trannys to the party. There's a bolt sticking out where there shouldn't be one.
That's an oversized charging handle![]()

I've got a pile of $$ ready to be spent on the day that The Shooting Edge announces that they have received the NR status / FTR number for the Swiss SAPR and that its ready for sale
Is that what you told yourself after your last date?
Reminds me of the trailer park boys episode where Cory and Trevor pick up the only two "women" at the trailer bar they just opened. The following day conversation... If someone did something to you but you didn't do it back it's ok right? I didn't do anything did you? No.
Again those are nice Desert Tactical rifles but in a 308AR thread Im afraid from here on out they will be referred to (in the time honoured tradition of naming rifles) as Lolla and Rue Paul.![]()
