This is one of the major problems I have with Canadian gun laws. It seems the number one problem the public has with guns, at least legal ones, is noise and yet the government forbids us from reducing the noise.
Sadly, there's not much we can do. If you don't mind me asking what are you shooting, where, and what specific hearing protection are you using. I dislike being "that guy", but do your hearing protection actually fit correctly? Even with proper usage, they might be the wrong size. It's happened to me before, the first pair of steel toed boots I wore were a bad size for me, they cut off the circulation to my ankles(even though they fit my feet fine) and I hated them and thought they were supposed to be that way, then I realized it was just a bad type for me. First couple times I tried to use foam earplugs I wasn't putting them in correctly.
I was at the range last weekend shooting .223 and wearing my Howard Leight Impact Sport. A few times I slightly dislodged the right muff and even a small amount of change from proper fit created a substantial difference in the amount of heard noise. Of course, the guy next to me was shooting .303 British and .308, which is karma I suppose now that I've got a .223 and leave my .308 at home.
