I came across a deal through a friend that i dont think i should pass up. It's a 7mm stw in a rem 700 that's blueprinted, has a sako extractor installed and 26" shilen barrel. The barrel is recent so not to many rounds have been fired through it, it's also pillar bedded and comes with dies and brass for $1000. (was selling a year or 2 before for 1500$ or so I was told but decided not to sell) He's now selling because he has a new favorite rifle and doesn't use the 7 anymore.
Any other members here with experience or shoot a 7mm stw, I do reload so ammunition availability is not a problem. What are your thoughts ?

my Dentist has the same, custom build on a 700, STW, Ted's barrel, he loves it, he says it shoots colverleaves everytime! I'm sure you will love your's, so don't pass on it. I think that is a mighty fine price for a custom built rifle! Buy & enjoy! Go Riders Go! Born & raised in Sask!
 
I just recently received my fourth 7mmstw. Driving a 140gr TTSX at 3400fps to 3500fps, and grouping sub 1/2moa at 200 yards, what's not to like?
 
What ever you do, make sure you don't over load and have a case failure. That partial Sako extraction system installed very easily can become a projectile. In my opinion it is the worst alteration ever done to a factory 700.
 
I have a 7 STW but in a different rifle, by FAR my fave caliber. Mine is a cusom Voere Titan II, but I wouldn't hesitate for one second if I was you, there is nothing like 140 grain bullets shooting as fast and flatter than the varmint guns!
 
Ya I will be checking the rifle out tomorrow night after work. My friend says the rifle is in great condition as he was going to purchase it. I will post pictures if I decide to buy it, and I will get a range report posted up as soon as I get time during this busy time of year.
Looking forward to some long range shooting with it.
 
If it has a 1-9 twist you should be able to get amazing accuracy with a 180 berger ... 1-10 you'll probly have to go 168gr berger. If you can shoot the 180 it has a G1 BC of 659 , in that cartridge it will HAMMER SH*T !!! at 1000 yards. Make sure you check the round count, That cartridge is a barrel burner. Other than that sounds like a steal.
 
The only thing I am concerned about is the sako extractor, pros and cons to it.
How much would I be looking at to order a ptg bolt and have it head spaced with the factory style extractor ?

ya i was gonna flute a factory rem bolt, Rick at ARTS advised me not to. He said it would be a liability, he Said " if the bolt was designed for it in the first place it would be that way " Then he made a comparison to the sako extractor mod ... Just his opinion, but i personally respect it.

Im sure the exstractor wont be a big deal. if it works fine, maybe just leave it.

I agree, its not bad compared to a .300 Win. Lots of guys shooting those without dieing..

For those that think a 30-06 is pushing it, they aren't going to like it much. Until they hold on a quarter mile deer and crumple it, that is.;)

ha, yeah I hate sitting in the dentist chair and I'm pretty sure my Opticle guy would warn me about possible eye damage, so that big bad boy is out for me!

I purchased a Skao in 7mm STW last winter, it is a great cartridge, super velocities, and great accuracy. Mine is muzzle braked, which makes long sessions more tolerable, but with the right stock setup and a decent recoil pad, it isn't as bad as one may think without the brake.
Mines spitting out 168gr Bergers and 160gr Accubonds over 3200fps. There's room to go up from there, but the accuracy is good at that speed. I haven't found a decent load for the 140-145 gr stuff yet, but I will.
 
Cool Cartridge..had one for a while but it was too much of a good thing for the bush here but would be awesome out west. I noticed that once I changed stocks on it it became a little unpleasant to shoot. A good pad and stock goes a long way.
