Ruger 1911 Impression

9mm=Glock 17. a great gun, I can't shoot mine worth beans but a great gun all the same. Buy one of these for 9mm shooting then get a .45, learn to reload or don't shoot it as often would be my advice.

I compromised and got an M&P22 pistol in the last couple of weeks. For the same price as a box of 50 9mm, I can buy 200 rounds of the 22cal. It has proven reliable and very fun to shoot.
If I shoot every 2-3 weeks like I seem to, then the $20-$30 ammo bill per visit will be appreciated more than the $75-$90 I'd spend if I only kept shooting the Shadow I started with.
I'm also finding a benefit to warming up with the 22, putting my best shots in with the Shadow, and finishing again with the 22.
Cost effective, and fun.

Good to hear you've sorted it out. I practice in the same manner with 1911's. I put the GSG (.22) through its paces and only after a significant warm up do I switch over to .45 (also 1911). If I start making mistakes or get frustrated, I switch back to the .22 until the "bugs" are worked out. This is also the reason I can't shoot my Glock for sh!t, the trigger is just soooo different. I need to invest in a .22 upper and mags for the Glock...or perhaps an M&P22.:D The trigger pull is similar to a Glock from the M&P's I've shot.

Hi

My SR1911, is tight with a very nice trigger. I have a Spartan, as well, (as some have compared earlier) and consider them about equal for fit and finish, but the SR1911 wins with overall appeal.

Hi
Got it yesterday...haven't got a chance to go to the range yet....trigger has a little play to it...but dry fire...it's best from all the firearms I have...travel and weight are awesome...haven't put a scale to it..but is very light...gun looks better than the pictures showing it...beautiful firearm

I handled one of these at local range on Monday was decent. Only thing noticed as did owner is as some mentioned here about loosening up. His trigger and his slide had a lot of play more then what I consider acceptable. He stated he had around 800-850 rounds through it. Not a bad handgun but wouldn't trade it for my STI duty no. Sounds like as said this is hit and miss abit so if ya have one that's tight keep it! :)

Glad I bought a Sig 1911 which is on the way. I find when you buy something inexpensive you get problems like this ^ which in the long run will cost you more money. I am not knocking the Ruger and I've read some good reviews on it, but this problem stated here is unacceptable for a low round count like that.

Ruger SR1911

Just picked up my spankin' new Ruger SR1911 yesterday from local dealer [after waiting for the BC CFO to get the transfer done].

While it's not a Colt and despite not being a huge fan of stainless 1911's, I took the plunge and decided to ad this to my stable.... :

It's not super tight in the slide to frame fit and the trigger does move a bit in it's slot. Not too concerned about it at this point, though.

We'll see how she shoots & the proof whether it passes my sniff test will be in that.

First impression, Ruger did a nice job with these. I do like the sites on it for sure.

^You finally grabbed one eh? I know you were one of the few like myself waiting patiently for them to become more abundant. Congrats! Looks really nice but the whole fit issue on some of these is the only thing making me hesitant to pick one up at this point. I have yet to purchase my first 1911 and it would be between the Ruger SR1911 and the STI Spartan. Love the looks of the Ruger between the two but the fit of the Spartan I hear is superb.

Wow, finally a review I can trust:)

Are the beavertail, slide lock/release and MSH made from stainless steel that has been blackened? Just curious as I like would like to make these parts match the matt stainless of the frame/slide.

I have seen it at a local shop. It rattled just handling it, and from the internet talk it is hit or miss, so I passed... but since I don't own one nor have I shot one, take that for what it was worth. I must say I didn't like the looks either. If anyone is looking for one though, I can pass via PM the shop number... they may still have it.

Thanks for the brief review, Jim. I will be in the market for a 1911 next year and I will certainly consider the Ruger.

Love mine!

Changed grips to VZ and acquired some CM power 10 mags!

A really nice shooter

Did you get a good one without a rattle and play in the slide ??
I'm still waiting for actual registration to take it to the range ...but couple of my IPSC buddies came over...and after the compliments on the looks and feel of the gun ...their comments on the build quality were less than favorable ...clunker and junk were the nicest I can post lol...so far my feeling ...it's getting shipped back
Love the looks and feel of it thou

Can someone put a micrometer on one of these "loose" Rugers and take pictures of the slide and or trigger side play? I'm really having problems understanding statements like "clunker and junk" because mine is so nice. I have 5 boxes through mine now (250 rds) and its still as tight as day one. Fit and finish is A++. Someone tell me that mine isn't an anomaly, rather only a few loose ones got past QC somehow.

I read the same reviews ,I think my standards aren't as high for a 700 dollar ss 1911 or I too have a rare anomaly ,LOL .Fun to shoot and functions with the GI 7shot with no issues Cheers

I haven't gone through all 7 pages of this thread but what's rattling? Is it actually the slide or the grip safety release...

It seems the QC is off on the SR 1911 so we can't rely on an ordered one coming in tight or even staying that way. I've read the trigger goes sour fast and evolves into a "long roll". What do we know about the SIG 1911 and SIG 1911 Traditional? Yes they cost more but seem to be raved about --- in the 5 inch length of course, short 45's are always touchy.
