I shot the "after" test today. Rifle has been bedded, a match spring guide installed (needed a new spring - Norc was too small in diameter) and a gas block shim. Simple stuff taught at Hungry's M14 Clinic.
The ammo is what is left over from the "before" test. No load development yet. I shot some military ball (147gr RG) some RG Mexican Match with a Sierra 155 Match King. The powder charge was not noted, but I usually drop the charge by 2 gr when making this type of MM. I also shot some plinker ammo i make with CBC brass and reclaimed CBC powder and Russian 147gr FMJ bullets.
The fact that the RG groups are round tells me that the rifle is shooting well.
I also tried some match ammo using Russian Berdan cases, and 168 Sierra MatchKings loaded with Varget and some Speer 125TNT HP bullets loaded with H335. Both shot well, and in each case the lighter load did best. I look forward to repeating this shoot with 0.5 gr and 1.0gr less powder.
These groups were shot at 100 yards. I used an aperture front sight and a black round 8" bull for an aiming mark.
This is the rifle I will shoot in the Vintage shoot at Winona on Sunday.
