Tavor anyone's thoughts?

55 PMC 223 bonze showed promise with my Tavor. But I was only shooting standing and at 50 meter. Ragged hole for 5 rounds using M21 bullseye optic.

I have some 55 PMC tac 5.56 to try out. I seem to recall that the Tavor is actually 5.56 not a 223 chamber. As for 63 RUAG ammo. I have tried this and it shoots like crap in the Tavor. But then again it shot badly in my PE90 as well. 62 American Eagle however shot moa out of my Swiss. Il give that a try in my Tavor as well.

There's also a Gen 1.5 version (last two Can Am Tavor orders)which is what I have. It was $300 more and included a quick release mount for the M21 bullseye reticle optic along with a factory picitiny rail. A cheesy backup sight post folds into the rail. The fold down front sight is standard.

The trigger... A lot of people are doing the breath out then shoot target rifle trigger pull. This doesn't work on non target triggers. Many police pistols are 12-14 lbs double action only so you learn how to shoot these. The Tavor trigger is heavy. Mine feels about 7 lbs. But it let's off crisp. If you take a spring off it's lighter but feels spongy like a glock trigger. I prefer to leave mine stock.

Shooting off hand in 3 positions is excellent. You can acurately and easily shoot the Tavor with one hand. It balances that well.

The Tavor isn't as modular as the AR (Frankly no other firearm is) but it is a very good all around firearm. For specialization the AR accuracy and modularity excells.

Excellent points. Good to know about the RUAG; I was going to try some in my new Gen 1.5, but if you've had that much success I might look for something else. How do you think some 75-grain TAP or 77-grain Black Hills might do? And really - the trigger isn't that bad. I think the first batch of NEAs takes that prize...

Hmmm, that reminds me...I have a case of 75gr Steel Match somewhere. After the expected/disappointing results with 55gr fodder, I'll maybe give the heavy stuff a run tomorrow. Thanks for jogging the old memory.

Unfortunately I don't have any of the 75-77 grain stuff for 223/5.56, yet. I might have some 69 Federal Gold around. I have a Burris Fullfield 3-9x on a PEPRE mount that I can use to try out these rounds for actual accuracy. Even though bullpups are a bit of a pain to shoot off the bench. The main issue I've had lately is getting out to the range. I used to live 15 minutes from a range. Now it's an hour each way. So you're looking at the whole day for a range trip to make it worth while.

I've been planning on doing an ammo test for a while now with the Tavor. I have a bunch of the usual 223 stuff along with the PMC both 223 and 5.56, Eagle tactical 55 grain, some Eagle 62 grain etc. Then later I can try loading up some heavier stuff once I've established what the cheap fodder shoots like and the preferences for the rifle.

I mounted the lower picatinny rail on the hand guard and an Atlas bipod is showing up today, so I'm pretty excited about that! I think this could be a great setup. With the KAC Triple Tap I'm hoping to get some decent results - but please keep me posted on the ammo results (I suspect you'll beat me out to the range).

I agree with the RUAG Ammo. It all sucks. Overpriced ammo is all. Imported 'Swiss' ammo....must be the best of the best?? NOT!

I tried a bunch even the .308... nothing special. It just left my wallet lighter. Never again

Funny, about to try some 75gr TAP. Might be a week before I let you know. Kids are in the middle of hockey season.
