Colt 1911 gold cup or GSG 1911?

I'm planning to get a .22 pistol and have pretty much narrowed it down to these two inexpensive models. Any thoughts as to which is better / more 'dependable'? It will be used for plinking, and I don't expect to run a huge number of rounds through it... but the less failure to fire/eject/feed, the better... especially since I only feel comfortable with the most basic of cleaning procedures! Input from those who actually own(ed) either of these is particularly appreciated. Thanks

I own a Gold cup. Its a great gun. Finish is great. Very Accurate. Feels/Looks like a 1911. Just did a trigger job on it and the gunsmith was impressed with the gun compared to some others. The gun eats anything. I mostly use Federal Target 40g/1080fps. Don't forget you will pay more for the Walther(Colt).

I would try to handle both the GSG and the Walther(Colt) and compare.

another one here for the GSG i have had it since Feb of this year and run 6000+ through it
without a single problem and it still runs as well as the first day i fired it

I'm getting the impression that the Sig, Colt and GSG are all the same thing. Made by Walther, and branded.

Sig and GSG are basically the same HG. Don't think the Colt/Walther is. Colt is the most expensive followed by the Sig then GSG.
Lots of good things said about the GSG on the net. When Q had their sale I bought the Sig for ~$20 more than the GSG. I've put 1000rnds thru mine and very happy with it. Lots of parts for both the Sig & GSG and mags are the same and available for around $26.
The Colt's fit and finish are excellent. Can't speak on its performance. All depends on what's important to you.

The difference in price may be nothing more than what brand x feels their name is worth. Brand x may also demand a different finish than brand y. Dunno, they all appear to be the same thing to me.

Thanks, all. Sounds like both are pretty good.

My local sporting goods store has the Walther/Colt gold cup for about the same price as a Chiappa .22 and both are about the same as a GSG I can get from CGN sponsors. There's also a Sig in the cabinet (very nice handling gun) for almost twice the price. Also a Walther p-22 with 5" barrel... but I really don't like the 'tacked on' appearance of the end counter balance combined with the short slide... and I've read some fairly awful reviews... so that one's off the list

Seriously? That's one over priced Chiappa or an under priced Colt! Chiappa should run $100 less than a GSG. Stay away from the Chiappa.

the gsg and the sig are the exact same gun, both made in germany. the colt is its own model, i believe the mags do interchange tho, which is nice as the gsg mags are only about 30$ vs the 50-60$ for the colt ones. my gsg worked great, just dont use alot of lead only. i found mine would lead up pretty bad after about 50-60rds (cci blazer). it was alot better with the copper jacketed federal bulk. i dont blame the gsg, i have another .22 pistol thats the same way. my rifles get rapid fire all the time and never lead up with blazers, but the handguns do very quickly for some reason.

never the less it was tons of fun with 5 mags ;)

I have never once heard that the mags can change from a GSG and a Walther(Colt) till now, and I don't know where you seen the mags for $50-60 because I have never seen them that high. Cost me $45 with the tax.

Let me know what you go with, I'm also looking for a good/cheap .22 target pistol. narrowed it down to the Walther p22, GSG 1911, and the Sig Mosquito. I've heard mixed reviews about both the Sig and the p22, I'm interested to get more feedback on that GSG 1911.

Also it breaks my heart to hear the bad reviews on the Chiappa 1911, their Rhino is the ###iest revolver I've ever seen! I was hoping to own 1 someday but if Chiappa is a brand to stay away from maybe I'll be looking at other revolvers.

I'd be curious to know if the GSG mags work in the Colt dedicated 1911A1 in .22 lr mfg by Walther.

I already verified that the GSG mags function with a vintage Colt .22 conversion unit [the model with the floating chamber] that I have.

Anyone got both [GSG and the new Colt 1911 .22] and can do a function test on this??
