The New Vanguard S2 Backcountry

And also get 1/2 the gun.

Some nimrod somewhere on this forum. Talking about the end of times or some such bull shat.

Man your Tikka hating is relentless - and baseless. Tikka offers an excellent product at the price point. Weatherby does too, with the basic Vanguard 2.

I clicked on the link in your sig-line and I was not authorized to look at the thread. Perhaps you have access to the youth, or ladies forum.

I was very impressed with the Vanguard S2 in 270win that I helped a friend sight in, as well as the Vanguard Sub Moa in 7mmremmag that I owned myself. I have always thought that the vanguard offers great value for the price. However, at $1200, the price is getting up there. That being said, I would take the S2 Backcountry over the two Mark Vs that I owned.

Figures a PlasTikka owner cant tell the difference between injection molded plastic and fiberglass. As well as seeing the obvious benefits of a Vanguard action over a T3.

Now a wood stocked rifle is plastic, give me a break here.
The weatherby my friend just installed a second swivel on was supposed to have the fibreglass stock, guess what it sure ain't pure fibreglass!

I would also be curious as to the advantages of the weatherby action, none i have seen come even close to loading as smooth as a tikka, they sure as heck are not any more accurate than a tikka so what are the advantages.

Other than you want to pay for the weatherby name.

Guess what, even McMillains aren't solid fiberglass throughout the stock. They use epoxy and even foam for fill, in some areas of the stock.

I would also be curious as to the advantages of the weatherby action,

The Vanguard uses a Howa action.

Can you seriously bend the ER Shaw barrel on a Forbes 24b as mch with your bare hands as Petzel did at the gun show? If so WTF is the barrel made from? Elastisized lead? lol

I've owned both - Vanguard 1, not 2 - and both are great rifles for the money. The Vanguard is actually cheaper than the T3 by about $150, so you aren't paying for the Weatherby name. The Vanguards I know of all gave excellent accuracy, as did the Tikkas. The Tikka has a better trigger than the Vanguard 1, but I understand the 2 is much improved. The Tikka has a couple of flaws - the first is that the action on the blued one rusts very easily. The barrels do not. Kind of interesting. The next is that ammo slips in the heavier recoiling versions and smacks up the tips of the bullets very easily.

They are both good rifles.

What is this about?

Please see: Model 700 Mountain SS.

But I'm sure you cant read, let alone spell...Ogre

Where ya been? Doing something stupid like actually hunting? I've quit it myself.

Well now troll, that Remington is exactly what I was shooting darts at. The one I held was unbalanced and the stock is clunky.
And I have been busy making Mur's 6.5 RM do this:

With my goat tag legit right behind me ;-)

Well, I'm a Remington 700 fan from way,way back.
I continue to be pleased with the 700s I own and have bought, even recently.

However, in my gunsafe are 5 Weatherby Vanguards. all S1 variety.
All will shoot sub-moa with loads they like. they are pleasant to shoot, and carry.

My only recent experience with Tikka was a 338 Win Mag that would not make it under 1.6 moa.
I tried many "fixes" that should have corrected the issue, to no avail.
Frustrated the crap out of me, so I sold it off. Do not like the plastic bolt shroud and magazine of the Tikka either.

Most Tikka owners are happy with their rifles, so I will not be bashing them.

Nonetheless, $1200.00 is a fair chunk of change, so this Vanguard will have to be quite special to fill the bill.

Regards, Eagleye.

I have a ss Backcountry in 30-06. Weatherby upgraded the stock to a B&C fully bedded when the old one started to come apart. Love the rifle $760 new. Had the warranty shop re-work the trigger down to 2.5 lbs. I like it alot. Wouldn't spend $1200 though. Run a WTB in the EE and you might find one for less in SS.

You get what you pay for simple as that.
Most of these guns mentioned will have the ability to shoot much better than the guys buying them....
Oh look a squirrel... Ooops, my ADHD meds must have worn off.
I have had several of the first generation Wby. Vanguards and liked them very much, aside from the heft that is.
I have a Gen.II in .257 Wbee, but have yet to shoot or fondle much aside from a set of rings and scope install.
They did fit me pretty good and the finish was OK for a $500.oo piece of kit.
There are things to be said, good and bad about them, but to each their own.
Tight Groups,
Rob
