Ok, gentlemen you have been most patient, so I will now post some pics which took me forever to get up on photobucket. Just a tease for now but I will try to add some narrative and more pics over the next week or so. Do y'all want to see all the pics including scenery and towns etc, or just the dead animal pics?

This is my lion taken in the Kalahari desert in extreme NW RSA.

That's all for now but will try and do more through the next week, this is just a taster, I took 146 pics and if you want to see them all just let me know. I have pics of animals actually standing up too!!!

Awesome Bongo! (Wonderful-looking lion, too!)

Looks like you had a terrific hunt. More pics would be great!

What rifle/cartridge(s) did you use? How many days were you in the field?

Hunted for a total of 25 days in 3 different areas. The Kalahari for 2 days and banged the lion, moved to northern central SA for 8 days took the zebras, giraffes and a very nice mountain reedbuck there, sorry no pics of the reedbuck. Flew up to Brazzaville and then drove 21 hrs north to our concession and hunted there for another 15 days. Took everything with a Rem 700 .375 with 270 gn TSX loaded to 2900 fps, optics are a Zeiss Diavari 1.5-6.
The Bongo goes 29 1/2" and the lion is over 11 ft both truly exceptional trophies.

because of you... i had to go get an information on safari hunt this may.
thinking of maybe doing a 7 day trip maybe next year or two...... maybe in 10 years...
hope you enjoyed your time!

I'm not sure what you are asking but if you're talking about booking and planning these high dollar hunts, I can tell you it starts anywhere from 6-18 months in advance. The tightest I have done was 4 months on a cancellation, that was an elephant. I hunted from 27 Sept- 22 Oct.

My lord, that lion is quite the trophy! Congrats & very much looking forward to more pics! (And no, they don't have to be just dead animals, ha ha...)

Cheers
Jay

I think i speak for everyone here in saying we want ALL the pics! :D

I was out hunting moose with my Father about 2 weeks ago and i was telling him about CGN. He'll never get into internet forums but what i was telling him was that there are people on here from all walks of life in this great country of ours. From the poor security guard (like me) to the guys who go to Africa for amazing safaris (like you). I used you for an example because i knew you were out in the wilds of Africa hunting all sorts of exotic things. I told him that we all try to share our experiences and that CGN is a great community to belong to. I must say that he was mighty envious of you, Douglas. When i told him they frowned on rifles smaller than .375 he pouted for a little while though. Dad loves his winchester 88 in .308 a little too much. :D

I don't know about you, but every south african PH i've ever seen is always wearing shorter shorts than men should wear. Did you ever ask any of them why they do that? Are nut-huggers that comfy out on the veld? :D

Nice pics man. Glad you had a good time and made it home in one piece.

What does one do once he has a dead Giraffe or Lion carcass? - For the record, I'm not trolling nor am I anti-hunting, just genuinely curious what one does with all these dead animals when the hunt is over.

ALL animals including the lion are eaten by the indiginous peoples. These places that offer this type of hunt are all set up to deal with these animals, they have a 20' flat deck trailer they winch the giraffe onto and it is taken back to the farm house complex where they have a processing area and some even have walk-in coolers while others just strip and dry it immediately. Africa is a land of zero waste. In the Congo our tracker and skinner were both old poachers and when they are done processing an animal all there is is a damp spot on the ground. They even rinse out most of the gut and stomach and eat that too. They even skin out the tail and it goes into the soup pot. They make even the most ethical of meat hunters here look like wasteful slobs. They cook all the bones and then smash them and eat the marrow. In the more civilized areas the bones are dried and sold to crush for bonemeal and the guts which are not eaten are dropped in a drum and sold to fertilizer companies. Protien holds such high value in these protien starved countries that every ounce of an animal is used, things you and I would deem inedible are eaten with relish including the brain in most cases, the nose meat and cartillage, large and small intestines, tongue of coarse, stomach and virtually every organ. I do not think Africans have taste buds, or if they do they are a lot more forgiving than mine and yours!!

Thank-you so much for this excellent, detailed reply, I honestly had no idea. It totally makes sense what you say about the no waste policy - these are things we totally take for granted - me included!

Here's some more pics for those who are interested. No particular order, sorry!
