Help!! What caliber next??

But i want a gun that i know that the moose/elk/bear etc in front of me is going down quickly, and I just want another gun :D so which caliber, and what make and model do you guys recommend. I want a good, quality rifle. Not a piece of junk. Price range of under 700 bucks
You should consider the 35Whelen and 9.3x62 as well. These two would be perfect for your needs.

At $700, your looking at an entry level rifle or a good deal on a used rifle. Either way, you may need to spend more and will be glad you did down the road. Don't go cheap on optics either.

Stainless camo t3 is $1100 Bushnell 4200 can easily run $600 add some rings and bases and $1800 sounds right to me.

A stainless tupperware Tikka is $850 at WSS, and beating Wholesale isn't much of a trick even for an old dog. He never said which 4200, but a 2.5-10 goes for $430 and theres a few other models within a few bucks of that.

Oh come on guys there is only one choice at least that is what another CGN'er would say and if you don't agree with his cartridge of choice his panties may get into a knot = the venerable 9.3X62...

Hey! I resemble that remark!:D

I was actually going to be helpful and say 300WM but Camp Cook showed me the error of my ways. 9.3x62 it is!:D

Yes a synth stainless is $850, but a camo stainless is $1020 (Cabelas) and the 2.5 x 10 x40 is $480 (WWS) add rings and bases $100. Thats $1600 plus tax thats $1760 Add a sling or a gun case and you got $1800 unless you live in a world without taxes or you can mount your scope without rings or bases.

If the old guy bought off a local dealer he would have paid more that what WSS sells stuff for. Same goes for the scope and r&b. For the $1800 he spent most people from CGN could get it for less. Happens all theed time hence his $1000 price tag, it looks priced to sell.

ive owned a few 300 win mags and am having a hard time digesting that it has more killing power than my 338 with 250 accubonds at 2700 fps?

How much game have you taken with the .338 and at what ranges and how much game have you taken with the 300 WM and at what ranges?
I have owned many of both and have been sorely disappointed in the 338 several times, by the same token I have been happily surprized by the abilities of the 300 WM. I really have to say that in my opinion the 300 WM with a 200 gn Nos Part is one of the killingest combos I've ever used on midsized game. In the 300 Wby it's even better!!!!!!!!! This may not be bourne out in tables or calculations but in my experience there is no comparison.............The 300s are a run away superior cartridge. The 340 Wby is a whole new ballgame and is superior to the 300s but not the 338 WM.

I say 300 WM in a nice Winchester M70 Classic, a hard to beat combo. If the bears are of the brown or grizzly variety I would bump that up to 338 WM and never look back. Oh and I would add open sights to the rifle also.
Good for anything that walks on this land and most others.

Ok. The guy said to me today that hed sell me his tikka t3 camo stainless with a busnell elite 4200 stainless scope (2.5-10x40 i think) in .300 win mag for $1000. He figures only 60-80 rounds down it. He loves the gun, but he has his 270 that has less recoil. Good deal or not?

A lot of people complain about the recoil from a T3 magnum. Based on that, I'd pass.

Hunting season is now pretty much over so there will be lots of used guns FS over the next couple months, esp after Christmas when the VISA bills come in.

Sad, but true.

I just picked up a great deal on the EE here. They are there if you look and be patient. But be ready to pounce when it comes along, or the tears will start!

As has been mentioned the T3s seem to produce a fair bit of recoil for the calibre. In my opinion the recoil pad is the biggest problem. Recoil aside it's a pretty good deal if you want a Camo stainless Tikka. I personally would prefer a regular synthetic over the camo so I would not pay extra for it, but opinions will vary! I bought my Tikka T3 Synth Stainless 4 years ago. It came with a 3200 3x9x40 scope a gun case and a sling for about $1150 taxes in, but I don't think youcan get them that cheap anymore. I think it would be more around the $1300 mark depending on available rebates etc. The Camo models go for $170-$180 more if that kind of thing floats your boat.

BTW I'm a big fan of the T3

Hey guys, so i have a decision to make. I want to buy another new gun (just cause haha) but this time i want it to be a bigger caliber. Im torn between .300 wsm, .300 win mag and 7mm rem mag. I already have a .270, .243, 12 ga and 17 hmr. But i want a gun that i know that the moose/elk/bear etc in front of me is going down quickly, and I just want another gun :D so which caliber, and what make and model do you guys recommend. You need a .308 or a .30-06

Ive thought about 308 but i will NEVER have a .30-06 in my cabinet.. I dont care how many people love them, i dont. I have my 243 for "varmints" 270 for whitetail/mulies and i want a big gun for whitetail/mulies/elk/moose. I want a gun that im confident in. My savage axis in 270 is ok, but it isnt exactly the most accurate/reliable thing around. Its a good truck gun, but thats it. I want a gun that is going to last me 50+ years. Ive also been thinkin about a weatherby.
